its a play on sword art online, subaru isnt a cool edgey character, he really is kinda useless, he is a dumb fork at times, but he is relateable and hes giving everything he has, getting repeatedly massacred and still developing as a person, to completely break him down as a character to create a chance to move forward is a perfect character and story development, especially with the title of last episode 'from zero' hating the character for being weak with everything hes been through..... its a perfect relation to our currently reality where people are triggered by the drop of a hat...... subaru really isnt as much of a sissy little beach as people make him out to be, try getting murdered over 100 times, seeing the person you love be murdered and tortured, being tortured yourself and see how your mental state is

well honey, the idea is to make us hate him, so he looks cooler later, and anyway, since hes so crappy at the moment atleast we can identify with him, and when he moves forward maybe we can to!?
