Personally I found the second half of season 1 to be a letdown, enjoyed the first half of season 2, and again found the second half of season 2 to be a letdown.

If you're looking for a similar genre of anime which has a more in-depth plot, I'd recommend giving Log Horizon a watch. It's my pick of the two.
