Howdy folks, I'm going to stray away from my typical posts and try to share some of my night time photography of the stars, planets, etc. Maybe share some facts and just hopefully find other space nerds here! If anyone wants to yall can post your astronomy pictures here too :D

This image I took only two nights ago, the group in the center is part of the Pleiades cluster which is 430 million light years away! Had to do lots of editing to really make it visible because to the naked eye it appears as a bluish/gray patch in and otherwise very dark sky. The picture was taken from my back yard using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

That's a great picture, particularly from a phone!
Did you use some sort of clamp or tripod? I know I can't hold a phone that steady.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

Wow that's useful. So if I have it correct it is either Mars or Jupiter

My initial guess was Jupiter due to the height and distance from the Sun, but the size seems to match Mars
The age of chivalry is gone; that of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded, and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever.

@Miles, I use the SkyView app. It's free for the basic stuff but there's a lot that you can't see unless you pay which is weird.

@Matthew the first image is of Jupiter assuming that's the moon.

@Tenebri it really is incredible. Just imagine, Voyager 1 is travelling 37,000 mph and has only gone 14.6 billion miles in the 46 years it's been up there. Keep in mind 1 light year is 5.88 trillion miles. Voyager 1 has only traveled 0.248% of the distance. IN 46 YEARS! It's astounding!

Thanks for the links btw.

@Rooh I put it on a timer and set it on the roof of a dog house lol

Ahh, that's a great idea, I always forget about using the timer to avoid camera shake!
Thanks for that. I've been trying to capture a picture of Jupiter, it's so bright at the moment.
