I just read a headline with Angela Jolie and The Weekend were at a restaurant together. I was a bit confused by the title so I clicked on link and yes it states they were both at the restaurant together. I've never heard of this The Weekend dude. So I clicked on his name just to confirm it was actually a persons name and it was.
As life goes on the more unusual peoples names become.
What unusual names have you come across?
Why do you think parents choose unusual names for their children?
(or) Why do people change their name to unusual names?
The Weeknd isn't his real name, his name is Abel Tesfayel. The Weeknd is just his stage name. Cardi B's name isn't Cardi B, her name is Belcalis Almánzar. They're just stage names.
There have always been strange or unusual names amongst performers.
But also if they use the person's stage name, that they're more well known by, in the title they'll get more clicks.
Parents name their children unusual names because they like the name, they want a unique name, or they positively hate their kid. There was a news segment about 20 years ago now where this woman named her son Nosmo King or Nosmoking. I'm not making this up. I can't remember the spelling. She saw the no smoking sign outside her room and decided to use that as a name. That kid's probably had his name changed by now lol
People give and change names for a variety of reasons. I wanted to change my name because I didn't like my first name, and I wanted to be more unique. :L

Also I initially thought this thread was going to be about the weekend. It's saturday today so it threw me lol
I am old so this confused me too...
I thought,
Working for the Weekend
, or at least
Waiting for the Weekend
.
At least the name is not as confusing as George Foreman's sons' names are.

five sons
His five sons are George Jr., George III ("Monk"
, George IV ("Big Wheel"
, George V ("Red"
, and George VI ("Little Joey"
. On his website, Foreman explains, "I named all my sons George Edward Foreman so they would always have something in common.

Even one of his daughters name is Georgetta Foreman.
I find it rather interesting.
In NZ we have strict guidelines on what names we can't name our children, I believe America not so much, if they have any rules at all?? This is what I found through Google:
The United States has very few laws governing given names. This freedom has given rise to a wide variety of names and naming trends. Naming traditions play a role in the cohesion and communication within American cultures.

On topic, I ran into The Edge - David Evans - in an outdoor equipment store in Brisbane's CBD in 1993. U2 had just played their Brisbane concert and I was shopping for thermal underwear, in preparation for a trip to Germany in December.
I went a little fan-girl, much to my partner's disgust. The Edge however was a complete gentleman.
