So, I'm going through some Pennywise songs on the internet, and, well, I keep coming across this claim that Pennywise did a cover song of California Dreamin'.
I can't find this song anywhere. A few people have posted the cover by Hi-Standard (from Survival of the Fattest) claiming it's the Pennywise version, but it's clearly Hi-Standard.
Lyric websites all have lyrics for "Pennywise - California Dreamin".
Guitar tab websites have tabs for the same song.
But the song doesn't actually exist anywhere, does it? Does anyone know if they did a live version that people are referring to?
And weirder still, while trying to find this elusive song, I come across all kinds of other videos on YouTube claiming to be Pennywise songs, but, they're clearly other punk bands. It's like some weird conspiracy happening. lol
Anyways, enjoy this Men At Work cover by Pennywise:

This goes back to the Napster era, where cover songs were always mislabeled. I remember seeing that Hi Standard cover attributed to everyone from Lagwagon to NOFX, but Pennywise was a popular one. To my knowledge, Pennywise never did actually cover California Dreamin', it's just that this mis-attribution carried over from the Napster era to the YouTube era, with those uploading it still thinking it's Pennywise.
Great cover though! Survival of the Fattest was my introduction to punk rock, I borrowed the cassette from my sister in grade 6.

Their movie appearance is interesting, but not as good as the available half an hour of concert footage from 1978.

That's pretty rare considering the availability of technology at the time. Today, almost everyone has a video camera in their pocket.

Billy Talent has been making great punk rock music since their creation.

I've actually come to appreciate it a lot more over the years - mixed in with the raw energy and anger was a lot of intelligent stuff.
A lot of people overlook or miss the meanings and messages being conveyed in the music.

I do love Green Day
Green Day is defiantly punk. Remember the mud wars at Woodstock?

Green Day totally owned it. It was amazing. I saw Hole playing at Lollapalooza and someone threw a tennis ball on stage, and she stopped the whole concert to bitch and moan about it.
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great!

Lmao I moved from punk right into ridiculous comedy rock/metal. Chuggaboom! is a good example that I can think of.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

I'm not sure whether it classes as Punk, but lately I've been listening a lot to Machine Gun Kelly's 'Tickets to my downfall' album. Concert for aliens, drunk face and bloody valentine are my favourites of that album.
If you told me that album came out in the late 90s/early 2000s I'd have believed you.

There are a lot of outlets and articles saying that he's the 2nd coming of pop punk and bringing it back into the limelight, and I gotta agree, he definitely sounds like pop punk with a bit of a 2020 twist. I expected not to like it, but the guy's damn good!

I've overkilled that MGK album since it came out haha
That album has a lot of similarities to Blink-182 and sounds different to his earlier stuff, I assume Travis Barker had a lot to do with that giving it that old-school Blink feel to the songs.
