I read the first page (c** reading another 69 pages) so sorry if I missed anything, but this does sound like a useful skill. Better than just relying on fish like you said.
Catching/killing animals should let you harvest inedible food items from them, which then a player would be able to clean and cook if necessary.
However, I think this skill should be like a subskill of cooking. Cooking is about the lamest skill there is and this could spice it up a bit. It would also give people whom despise of skilling something they could work with.

Ch-Ch-CHUNKY, Although cooking might be one of the lamest skills it is likely the most diverse with tons of stuff you can make from many different sources. Its because of this that I can't imaging Jagex would invest the time this would require just to add more to cooking.
And yes, it sure is closely related to cooking, but a step in between the killing of a beast and eating it. Just how many things have you had to kill working on you slayer skill that you could have eaten had it dropped a carcass?

I dont really see what the point is of this.
add it into cooking maybe, but your point about a poisonous fish making a great meal when done properly...karambwan. Yeah they are hardly ever used but it is in the game. As for getting meat from animals, its just cutting muscle off bones, doesnt require proper skill. the skill is in cutting nice looking special meats and if we add them into rs then there will be far too much food.

"its just cutting muscle off bones, doesnt require proper skill."
I'm not sure what you're talking about here as properly removing the meat from the bones of most butchered animals does require a great amount of skill. Sure anyone can hack apart a carcass but to properly break it down so as to get the most and best cuts requires a great deal of training.
And Butchers are not cooks. With few exceptions every pieces of meat a cook receives to cook has first seen a butcher.
"there will be far too much food"
There would certainly be a lot more food but I respectively disagree that there would be too much.

I have an idea. Instead of making it a new skill or creating new items how about tacking it onto the cooking skill... Now depending on your cooking level you could cut the meat into different cuts and have it heal more. Say a level 76 cook could butcher a shark into a healing item that restores 250. However a level 99 cook could butcher a shark into a healing item that restores 300+. These items would be untraedable. This would be very useful for fishers who cook their own food as they could have better food then just tuna or whatever they fish. It would not be overpowered because it is not traedable.
Edit: Cooking is basically useless and is just another 99. If I could cut up my monkfish i catch into food that restores much more health than before it would make the skill amazing. Imagine catching a monkfish and with 99 cooking cut it into 3 monkifsh filets that restore 200 lp each. I don't think it would be overpowered because it wouldn't be traedable much like extremes and overloads.

seems like an addition to cooking =)
@ the above post:
That would also make them non-PvP. And to set it aside, it wouldn't stack, just be 3 average healing foods, taken from 1 average healing food.
