The well-known problem of RuneScape. Mindlessly reporting them is boring and tedious. I've PKed over 250+ of them at the Rev Caves, and I feel discouraged because it feels like I'm fighting a losing war on my own, and, in fact, we are losing the war.
So let's turn this into a positive and fun activity by addressing the bot issue.
We should be able to detect a botter; we already can with our eyes and understanding of the bots. However, there should be an extra detection system to live detect and confirm bots. By doing so, you would prevent the bot from logging out or teleporting, thus trapping the bot.
After trapping the bot, additional systems should detect any legitimate human activity, presenting puzzles or asking questions to further confirm on the spot that it is indeed an actual bot. We also need to consider that they can use AI.
Killing & Looting:
After 100% confirmation of the bot, we should be able to kill them anywhere in the game and receive some sort of rewards for doing so—materials or GP. Of course, the player should also undergo a bot check to prevent botters from abusing this system in the future.
Players enjoy a bit of a challenge, so I would suggest that they can be killed, but it shouldn't be too easy.
Suggested Rules:
The Bots:
- No logging out or teleporting.
- Unable to run, only walk.
- The ability to fight back.
If the player gets killed by the bot, they won't lose their items, but missing out on killing the bot will mean missing out on potential rewards.
I`m open for suggestions, so what do you think?
