1.) Gain virtual XP past skills in the max level, being 99 if it's 99 or 120 if it's 120
2.) Spend Virtual XP on "things" to advance in the game
3.) All-time highscores will be based on virtual XP gained "AND" used, no cap

A.) No more dead end highscores
B.) Active high scores only
C.) No XP wasted

:) ;) :P :( :D :O O_o :@
5.8b XP

You seem to have gone back and forth on this a couple of times in this thread, which is fine, people are allowed to change their minds.

I'm not 200m in anything so maybe my opinion doesn't matter on the topic but I think increasing the xp cap will be a necessary update for the survival of the game.

If it were increased to 1b, half the skills would be capped again within 6 months. Some of them would be capped the same week (arch, summ, herblore). The xp rates have gotten to a point in this game where you could actually obtain 1b xp faster now than you could have obtained 99 in the skill when it was released. So I don't really see this as a particular problem, especially since future updates will likely keep dumping faster and more efficient methods on us over time.

The hiscores scramble will likely result in a large drop off in the rares market for skilling supplies, shaking up in the in game economy quite a bit. Probably for the better of the overall health of the economy in general.

It's likely to cause a revenue boost for Jagex. I sincerely doubt many people would actually quit because 200m is no longer the cap. I think the number of people who return, or invest more time into the game would outweigh the few that leave over it. I think interest would return to the hiscores. We are sitting at just under 2,000 people at 5.6b, and the hiscores are now completely irrelevant. Back in the early days of the game it was fun to log in and see how the top page of each skill had changed since the day before. That's just.. gone now.

I personally think that if the cap increase did happen, anything obtained from TH shouldn't work past 200m in the skill to at least maintain integrity in the race for some grace period beyond the cap increasing. Probably 1 year.

Regardless, I think the prestige system is probably the best middle ground. The highest number shown can be 200m, but the hiscores reflect something up to 1b for each skill.

Just start a new acc if you want to gain xp in a capped skill again.

i have mixed feelings about this idea.

on one hand i agree 100% i DO NOT like the idea of a cap of any kind, in terms of an MMO one of the reasons we love MMO's is because we can no-life, and spend a lifetime doing so.

on the other hand i think jagex have landed on an awesome way to use high scores, creating a race for a spot at the front page every time a new skill is released.

maybe raising the exp cap to 500m-1B i would like, and giving maybe a years notice this is going to happen before doing so.maybe raising the cap to 250m as a test run beforehand.

i dont know how i feel about this point of view, but i know for certain that 200m is maybe too low for modern runescape.

keeping in mind this type of change would only effect the top 1%.

while on this topic i would like to point out the up-coming change in the gold cap is a long needed, excellent change.

this thread deserves alot of consideration by jagex developers.

I couldn't agree more. Virtual levels are virtually worthless.

You can buy XP. You can't buy experience.
"...From The 'Scape" is very nearly here.

If the gap between new players and veterans is too high that will demoralise some people. Bob says:

Always check the second trade screen.
Never trade in the Wilderness!
Keep your computer keylogger-free and virus scanned.
Never give your password out to anyone.
