You seem to have gone back and forth on this a couple of times in this thread, which is fine, people are allowed to change their minds.
I'm not 200m in anything so maybe my opinion doesn't matter on the topic but I think increasing the xp cap will be a necessary update for the survival of the game.
If it were increased to 1b, half the skills would be capped again within 6 months. Some of them would be capped the same week (arch, summ, herblore). The xp rates have gotten to a point in this game where you could actually obtain 1b xp faster now than you could have obtained 99 in the skill when it was released. So I don't really see this as a particular problem, especially since future updates will likely keep dumping faster and more efficient methods on us over time.
The hiscores scramble will likely result in a large drop off in the rares market for skilling supplies, shaking up in the in game economy quite a bit. Probably for the better of the overall health of the economy in general.
It's likely to cause a revenue boost for Jagex. I sincerely doubt many people would actually quit because 200m is no longer the cap. I think the number of people who return, or invest more time into the game would outweigh the few that leave over it. I think interest would return to the hiscores. We are sitting at just under 2,000 people at 5.6b, and the hiscores are now completely irrelevant. Back in the early days of the game it was fun to log in and see how the top page of each skill had changed since the day before. That's just.. gone now.
I personally think that if the cap increase did happen, anything obtained from TH shouldn't work past 200m in the skill to at least maintain integrity in the race for some grace period beyond the cap increasing. Probably 1 year.
Regardless, I think the prestige system is probably the best middle ground. The highest number shown can be 200m, but the hiscores reflect something up to 1b for each skill.
