Hello everyone,

Since release construction has been my favorite skill. Many here may reminisce the good ol' days of house parties and visiting other players' houses just for chaotic fun. Sadly the community's culture deviated so that POHs are almost never used. Jagex may not be able to iron-fist the player base to do things just for fun, but there are ways to give an incentive to not only use the POH but also visit others! The idea I'm presenting here will balance POH fun with reward – you xp-greedy little goblins. I'll begin with the summary of my idea for those not wishing to read through everything.

Summary:

- Add POH content up to level 120
- Increased room variety
- Increase room limit (with levels), at least 1 room per new room and several extra
- Buff dungeon monsters
- Give perks for having certain rooms in your house filled
- Give perks / rewards for activities done in other players' homes
- Ability to access your home through a second portal

The objective is to make 120 construction more fulfilling, offer community unity, subtract gold from the economy, and bring more life to a deceased major skill feature. Fort is great – but it's also semi-private and apart from being an afk source of construction xp it doesn't really add much to the skill or its original purpose. POHs are massive and have been long-neglected.

Once upon a time I hosted one of the most dangerous POHs in Gielinor. Much of my house is my dungeon and it's a labyrinth filled with traps. I have 5 steel dragons and 5 iron dragons and used to love throwing parties and watching the dragons shoot their fire out of their rooms – sniping passer-bys! Eventually house parties degraded into disgruntled crowds complaining that I wasn't lighting my altar and asking stupid questions like “Why is your lectern underground?!” Once EOC released my heart broke when I witnessed a level 70 with zero anti-fire protection punch one of the steel dragons outside by oubliette to death. The primary source of the death of parties is with “no xp waste” culture; folks just don't have a reason to build up their homes or visit just others to party. Construction is a large skill and a lot of work went into POHs so it's harrowing to see the content so dead. In days long gone if you saw a construction cape you could safely assume that they had a beautiful home, now most live in a shed that maybe has a study, altar, and costume room.

Ideas for new rooms:

Trophy Room V2

This room will display great feats you accomplished. A plaque displaying collection logs you completed, a state or two of monsters / bosses you have earned at least 1 prestige for, and a cape rack displaying the cape(s) you are most proud of. I'm thinking maybe the first hook you unlock holds 1 cape and the highest rack can display 3. There can also be a display case for rares – for anyone wanting a nice spot to place an Easter egg, pumpkin, disc, or maybe that second partyhat they never wear. When the case is removed the rare would return to the player's inventory.

Dungeon Catacomb

This room can maybe have uses with necromancy, maybe include traps or monsters related to it. If the player has the right slayer level to kill the monster it can include a stronger version of a Zemouregal's undead from wilderness.

Dungeon Catacomb boss room

Here we will have a monster created from the remains of a boss! The remains themselves will be a semi-rare / rare drop from a particular boss. If you have prestige for that boss then the monster can be upgraded to one far more challenging.

Bar

Yeah yeah yeah, the kitchen contains a keg. Why not have a full bar room? One that offers beers, wines, cocktails, and maybe a quest where you can illegally stock that delicious Karamja rum! The player can also hire a variety of bartenders.

Stage

A stage with some benches / chairs. At lower levels of this room the player can hire one of the many street musicians to perform in their home, and the highest tier there can be a crew of actors who perform moments of Gielinor's history in an abridged, cheesy way.

Green Room

To compliment the stage. Here players can sit down, enjoy tea, and equip costume items to put on theatrical performances themselves! Actors could also be found here when not performing. The plays / costumes can be unlocked through questing, minigames, etc.

Invention room

If the player has invention unlocked then there can be an inventor's workbench here. Should have have the proper levels this room can contain a small generator and 1-2 smaller versions of invention machines.

I'll leave the post below this reserved for any other room suggestions!

Dungeon monster buff:

Self-explanatory. Buff all dungeon monsters so they are no longer laughably easy / pointless. We can also have a variety of new monsters as we level beyond 99.

Room fill perks:

If certain rooms have every hotspot filled the homeowner can visit the room once a day to collect a temporary xp buff in a related skill. It doesn't need to be massive, maybe just a small lamp of bonus XP or something like 1-2% for an hour. Kitchen would give cooking, corridors & treasure rooms slayer, catacomb necromancy, workshop an artisan skill of the owner's choice, etc. A smaller buff can be granted from another player's house and a fight in the combat ring would be a buff to a combat skill.

Rewards for visiting others:

New currency! The currency will be gained by doing stuff in another player's house. Playing games in the games room, sitting in parlor, killing monsters, successfully traversing over traps, picking locks or breaking through door, scrying in the pool, dropping players into oubliette, cooking in the kitchen, fighting in combat ring, yadda yadda you get the picture.

The currency merchant can me, I don't know, and HOA advisor or something? One will stand outside of each POH portal. Rewards can be a variety of lamps, cosmetic outfits and overrides, maybe content that can be used in a POH for higher level hotspots in games room, something that can be a completionist cape requirement, a variety of reagents with a daily use (an alternative antifire potion, rune packs, mystery boxes that can contain clues and other goodies, teleports, etc). Possibly even titles like “houseguest” or “the burglar”. On the note of the latter it would be neat if a thieving minigame could be implemented into POHs,

Second house portal:

Does anyone even use portal rooms anymore? We should be able to build something that can make our house accessible from at least one other portal. This way players can have a portal at a popular location for guest access while also having one for personal use. Personally, I keep my portal in Pollniveach as that brings me close to a rug merchant when doing clues.

The End

I don't know if Jagex has a rework like this planned, and part of me hopes the new planks foreshadow one. If not – well maybe this thread will work as at least a basis for when a POH rework is brought to the table.

I'm open to more suggestions. Room ideas I like I'll include in the reserved post above, and others I'll add a directory to the reserved post below.

If Construction is taken to 120 what would that mean for Woodcutting, if they also intend to rework Fletching, possibly Firemaking if they were made into 120s. I suppose they can do what they did for some of the trees and make them pertinent to both skills like we have with regular and oak logs. Maybe a bit of both. I suppose as it is Construction has a comparatively minimal amount of different logs. And a lot of the logs for Fletching and Firemaking are fodder from quests. So I suppose there is room for more.

It may sound stupid, but I think the greatest reason for the lack of POH uses, especially for portals within the house; is due to the loading screen, if it was a more immediate loading of your house then I think people would use it alot more. Nothing within the game even of the newer skills, Construction seems like the most isolated skill there is in the game. I think even Dungeoneering loads quicker than your house, can you explain that? Theres way more rooms in that than your POH. But I suppose it's because everybody has a different house whereas in Dungeoneering it's just quickly throwing out a bunch of rooms that have been just thrown together randomly.

If they made it unlockable one way or another to have your house loaded more readily, that would probably be a good way to get people to use it more.
