There should be a forest made like a maze where you'd have to chop down tiers of vines to traverse towards puzzles, complete the puzzles to go further. At the end of the maze, you can fight a woodcutting boss, weak to strong axes or hatchets but can also be killed using melee but not so much range or mage. Defeat the Woodcutting Boss in this Elite Dungeon Type-of-instance (but the skilling version), to be granted temporary access in its loot forest with new trees, materials and monsters for a short duration before getting teleported out. You can repeat this process of marauding as many times as you'd like with guaranteed drops that retain value.

A.) Match carved objects into the corresponding inserts nearby
B.) Defeat a small batch of "Root Minions" (only 3 kills allowed) to "possibly get a key, use key or get kicked out for a re-try
C.) Puzzle Wall: Move the Objects around to match rows to corresponding shapes (like previous quest wall-puzzles)

Elder Root King / Yew Branch Master / Magic Seedling Sprout
( The amount of mechanics depends on tier of tree boss )
a: Spawns baby seedlings.. kill seedlings before they grow too powerful
b: Bark Shield - Chop bark shields away to resume damage
c: Root Whips - Pray Melee to avoid massive damage or devo/deb/reflect
d: Leaf attacks - Pray range against his standard attacks
e: Tree Split - After reaching a certain amount of HP depletion he splits into two trees where you must face all mechanics at random from each tree-split
