So I had an idea...

People always talk about how there needs to be a comparable way to bossing money making. What if for 99-120 Thieving it was centered around STEALING bosses loot.

I envision an instanced encounter at the bosses door just as you would for fighting a boss but instead you are on the outskirts of the arena. Maybe a ledge above with the arena down below. Maybe even fake "heroes" fighting the boss in the background. Maybe the goal is to reach the treasure before the fake heroes do. There could even be traps and obstacles to overcome on the way to a loot room.

I think this would be fun content and would make training a skill like Thieving exciting and worthwhile not only for skillers but for anyone!

I also think that something extremely important for this idea is that the loot/rewards would be the SAME DROP TABLE as the boss you're stealing from. All fun and excitement would be lost with some workaround or alternative brought on by a worry devs might have about price crashing items or whathaveyou. Take the same rates or time frames that people obtain the drops from each boss, and match it to the time it would take for the thieving method. Or make the drops less likely if its too easy to accomplish through thieving. What I'm trying to say is balance it through drop rate and NOT through replacement. Nobody would want to steal from a boss if it wasn't the loot that they already know that boss drops.

Imagine the excitement people would feel who already consider bossing an unobtainable experience..

Point being, if I had a chance (even a small chance) at receiving a FSOA piece from thieving Kerapac.... or a soulbound lantern from Rasial... even if it took the same amount of time that fighting those bosses would take... that would turn something like Thieving into a fun and exciting 120 to work towards.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk <3

Yes I mentioned the potential for prices to crash and as I also stated my point is that they should balance with drop rates/time-to-obtain and not replacement!

This is a cool idea I wanted to share. Thanks for the constructive comment.

Edit: Tenebri, people like you are why I'm dissuaded from coming to the forums. Thanks for putting zero effort into having a conversation on an idea and for staining my thread with negativity from the get-go. I really appreciate it. I hope you continue to find solace in your forum rank farming.

you are welcome.

however this isnt going to be balanced. its another means of getting these items. if the drop rates are the same then this is essentially going to double the amount of these items coming into the game.

which in turn will make them crash super hard.

i also put as much effort as i needed into the post. if the idea cant take criticism thats literally less than 10 words, then thats an issue for the person who bought the idea up. this place is for discussion.

Honestly I think it would be nice, if more interesting - and especially unique - things could be obtained via thieving. The skill right now is good to gain certain supplies (all of which obtainable via other means) and some monetary rewards, but it's mostly just an end in itself to get to 99, 120 or 200m.

Issue now being - you want to give out boss loot - which isn't actually even a new idea, since you for instance could get a zaryte bow from nihils - or taking an example from OS - you could get armadyl or bandos armour from the enemies fought during elite clues. Yep - this is entirely possible, but in order to prevent the issue brought up by tenebri the stuff needs to be insanely rare - aforementioned zaryte bow is a 1/384 drop from nex - but a 1/1m drop from nihils - so you never should actually expect to see one - but you certainly could cheer if actually would happen for once. And to be honest - this way it wouldn't be too shabby I guess. For some unexpected WOW-moment.

Obviously you still need to motivate players somehow and for that I think it's important that thieving 100-120 is not continued like the first 99 levels. And for that rather than some ultra rare reward intended to be obtained in some other place, it's better to find some certainly more obtainable things unique to that new activity. With decent commons to keep the motivation up until you're gaining the unique.

I'm a big believer of there being "
skilling bosses
" for a number of non-combat skills that are specifically designed for those skills.

In the case of Thieving, perhaps it is a wealthy merchant in Ardougne Market utilising mechanics described .

However, I don't believe it would be wise, or easy, to be able to thieve from combat bosses. These bosses generally attack you on sight, and any mechanic to prevent them from attacking for you to loot them could be mistreated by those wanting to kill the boss.

Then there's the loot issue that Tenebri mentioned. The loot needs to be specific for that activity. It would also open up the possibility of new Hero items for those specific skills.

This is not to say the bosses can't be used in a different arena. Perhaps the Barrows could have a secret entrance that leads to an Agility run to the chest, with Thieving required to unlock doors and solve puzzle traps along the way. See for more ideas on how skills can be used in skill-specific bossing.
