There are 2 ways this can be done.

1.) You are given a selection of items you want to collect to make notes of, you load the notepad with magic note paper and they are collected in note form.

2.) Either that or Magic Notepads have a certain amount of notepad paper that can't be added to and it works that way, still selecting which items will be noted upon collection.

Whichever is a more balanced way of doing it, so they can be separate and superior items to magic notepaper if magic note paper isn't used with them. Whichever way is better.

Not all items work with the porters, and you need to collect the items to use notepaper so if you are low on inventory space they are very inconvenient to note. We have a relic that notes bones, but If I've not mistaken it, that is a high level requirement . Usually when you are training you don't have a lot of space, and so you can't take advantage of the fact that notepaper notes everything at once, unlike notepaper the notepad would note the item as it was obtained.
But again this would be useable on items that the porters don't work on. And the notepad would be more ideal for full inventories. If you're training on metallic dragons (the first 3 variants anyways) magic notepaper is ideal, but if you are training on things that require lots of food, and potions, magic notepaper is more clunky than the magic notepad would be.

Look at it like this, we have BoB's that specialize in certain skills, you cannot carry pure essence in an ordinary BoB despite them being tradable items, if we did that it would make the BoBs that do pure essence useless. I'm sure there are items they've held back from being able to use the porters that they could do with a magic notepad. Magic notepaper are altogether separate things so it wouldn't make sense to have an option to select which items can be noted upon collection unless there was a device of some sort that took note of the items that can be noted upon collection, a magic notepad would fill that need.

Bones is one, I'm sure there are others though. If magic notepads are cheaper though collectively per note than magic note paper, it could be used for items that you wouldn't note with notepaper as the price of the notepaper wouldn't make sense to note, and obviously porters would not make sense for cheaper items because they are fairly expensive.

So as a whole magic notepads obviously would be much more expensive than magic notepaper, but as you are dealing with a bulk amount of magic notepaper on a magic notepad it would be cheaper per magic note

yes because its a drop from a monster.

and as you stated already there is a relic that notes them automatically on drop. and the bonecrusher can pick up bones so both together they go in invent noted with no interaction.

108 arch is quite a ways for most people. But again there are plenty of items too cheap to use porters with, that magic notepad per note would be cheaper than a magic notepaper as well, so there are things not ideal for either, that could be for magic notepads. With porters you have a price you won't go below, same with magic notepaper, magic notepad can set a new low price point for collecting items.

And a point I'd like to emphasize is that the magic notepad unlike magic notepaper would turn into a note upon collection, so it would be as convenient as porters, but even cheaper than magic notepaper, you wouldn't pick up something cheap if you had to individually note it, especially if the price point isn't profitable. The magic notepad would have a convenience and a low enough price that between the 2 things you would collect things you otherwise wouldn't collect.

Well, you wouldn't, less advanced players may. This is coming from a person who is saying we don't need something that notes bones because an arch lvl 108 relic notes bones for you.
If you have a slayer task of green/blue/red/black/adamant/rune dragons and don't happen to have 108 arch, then this would be a convenient thing to have, as you are lacking in inventory space and you have to note every bone you have to collect, instead of having it noted for you.
Perhaps you don't want to see that relic perk outdated, I can see how you would feel that way.
I can see how this could bring the prices of bones down however though also, which may be a self defeating purpose.

So I can see how this could be a bad idea for the economy of the game.
So for differing reasons than your own I may agree this isn't the best idea.
