It would be best if they were altogether new items without like abilities to the currently existing jewelry. That would make it so the best they could do depended on the last thing they did. However, I think it would be neat to have dragonstone bound jewelry that makes it altogether better gems, even than dragonstone, and then to have onyx bound dragonstone.
This would make a whole bunch of new jewelry to get creative with. Onyx bound items from sapphire through to dragonstone as well. The jewelry would only go as high as the bounding gem, so a diamond the highest form you'd have is a diamond bound ruby, a ruby bound emerald would be the highest bound to ruby, etc, etc. So it's not like there would be a whole lot of useless items. There wouldn't be too many low form items, but they would be useful as well.
