Now that we've had a few weeks to digest and play around with the changes, I think I can say that the recent Penguin update for RS3 was incredibly well executed. Possibly one of the best remasters of old content in recent memory.
Not only are Penguins now significantly less obtuse for new players (or those not involved with the long-standing Penguin hunting communities) to get into, you've somehow pulled off a remarkable balancing act of doing this while making sure that they're not too easy and that the established communities still have a reason to exist in terms of letting people get the job done faster.
Not only that, but the addition of the 00 Penguins was an inspired choice. It's been incredibly fun to catch a glimpse of a bonus Penguin while going about our business, days after completing the standard weekly hunt, and scrambling to tag it before it despawns or before someone else wanders by and tags them themselves. Earlier today, I saw a 001 out of the corner of my eye just as I was teleporting out of Keldagrim, and the adrenaline rush as I scrambled to get back in time was exhilarating.
The result is that Penguins now feel a lot more like an integrated part of the game world instead of something you do once a week and immediately forget about. The fact that the 00's can spawn in places they couldn't before (like the Runecrafting altars) also really helps make the idea of them being actual threats in their questline feel more realistic, compared to their agents outside of the questline being... well, idiots, if I'm being honest (if I had a dollar every time a cactus Penguin found its way out of the desert, I'd never have to pay for anything ever again)
So... yeah. Don't really know how to wrap this up, but I just wanted to give you guys a "well done" shoutout for how this was handled. 2020 has probably been the best year for RS3 in recent memory, and updates like this and Archaeology are the reason why. Kudos.
