I hope the mods read this becuase I'm also stoked on Arch. Thematically It's so good.
The action of excavating debris works so well to me. It's meticulous work, it's careful work, so the slow progress makes sense. The time sprite granting FOCUS makes so much sense to me. The glowing rocks in mining makes less sense, it creates this sense that the rocks are magic, but that theme isn't really expressed anywhere else aside from select metals. Whereas in arch you are granted focus, and precision that increase your XP rate. The fact that we get the +20% xp bonus for paying attention through this mechanic also feels great, it's free urns that don't take an item slot, I love it. I love uncovering lore, i love learning more about the world through this, it makes the skill feel so rich. The richness and depth of the skill is welcomed whole heartedly, but it also sheds light on how shallow and poor many other skills are. Firemaking, woodcutting, and cooking for example. Fishing isn't rich either, prayer is great to use and adds to the feel of the world but is a very poor skill to develop.
Archeology unlocking new areas is water on dry plants. It's been so needed and the way they did it was amazing. Slowly unlocking new areas AS YOUR SKILL DEVELOPS makes SO much sense to me thematically as an archeology skill.
I really wanna compliment the devs highly for the skill, so many aspects of it are so good and honestly the skill gives me hope for the future. I've only been playing for a few years but the game has a lot of REALLY poorly designed areas and Arch is one that i feel has been done extremely well so I want to give good praise to the devs. I hope they read this and know the skill is very much appreciated!
