As an avid Runecrafter, I was excited but apprehensive about the prospect of a skilling minigame altaring (...) access to the skill.
However, after a few months, I've concluded, it is the most well-integrated piece of new content I've seen since the original launch of OSRS Mobile.
1 - The Quest
The quest feels natural as an introduction to the minigame, but crucially, it took the opportunity to use the new game to expand the existing lore for the wizards' order. This was the first hint that this content was not a branch into a new area, but woven into the fabric of the existing game.
2 - Runecrafting Vibe
The minigame keeps the same essence of feeling that runecrafting brings; it's hectic, but in a very methodical and ordered way; you have to make quick choices like when using the abyss, and choose your routes carefully like in Ourania, and almost always, patience is key. My absolute favorite part is that the existing runecrafting content (the altars) act as a central feature of the minigame. The team's original vision of a swarm of players mobbing one runecrafting altar worked, and it's hilarious. That's some creative-ass world building.
