Fear not, Roddy. This doesn't appear to be car salesman Raptor at all.

> During the mini quest, he's essentially pest control (except we didn't really ask for him to show up), helping Forinthry with its undead problem.

> He is a new Slayer Master, and will be the NPC that is associated with the Guardhouse.

> He will be accessible as early as 10 Slayer, but the amount of Slayer Points you receive from Raptor tasks scales up with the player's Slayer level. Some of the monsters introduced in this mini-quest will prove much more menacing for novice Slayers, and Raptor probably will be able to assign them specifically should you meet the qualifications. His tasks match what we know about him narrative-wise. Remember teaming up with him to help the folks in Remington and encountering the QBD? He'll assign grotworm tasks. After this quest, he'll also be associated with undead creatures, of which he'll be able to assign cluster tasks (like Laniakea.)

> Raptor's "special challenge" is tiered in a trio, much like everything else in the Fort is. You'll be hunting Raptor tasks until he assigns a challenge that will award "Slayer Trophies", which are mountable heads of the new Slayer Creatures that provide buffs to the amount of Slayer Points you get from Raptor on top of the already scaling nature of his points. Higher tiered trophies will allow the player to min/max Raptor's tasks by length, as well as collect "bone fragments", which are pretty similar to pylon charges in Archaeology (provide experience when turned in) but apply to Slayer, when working for him.

That all sounds great, but IMO they are exaggerating the security risk in the news post. They haven't even considered the new additions to my crew. Rodney and Princess.

Raptor might think one can march right into the fort, but that was only because Princess let them in.

Also, considering the lore, there is a fair chance that Rodney knows every inhabitant of our game world. Either directly or as a witness to some catastrophe that led to the untimely demise of Rodney's close associates.

I am slightly disappointed that one of the top tier rewards is more XP. Some skills don't need more XP, especially when they are added to on a somewhat regular basis like Slayer.

Also I was expecting a bit more from the upgraded combat ability. But that's just whatever. Some new branch of science and math. I'll never understand it so I don't even try anymore.

I definitely agree that Slayer isn't left wanting for content usually, but I would argue that a lot of players genuinely enjoy training the skill even beyond 200m experience because it can be rewarding outside of experience.

Now, the ability codex? Probably lackluster. I wouldn't know, I'm not well-versed on combat post-EoC to be able to instruct others on what is and isn't great when it comes to abilities. That however, is the kind of goal to strive for when it comes to certain players who really enjoy Slayer content.

The other thing about slayer is that it technically is a true 120 skill, with content such as Abyssal Lords and the Magister in those upper echelons, and the Guardhouse as a whole will make getting there more enjoyable than it was previously. With the third trophy mounted, Raptor will award 21 Slayer points per tasks. For a Slayer Master you unlock almost by simply making a new account, being nearly competitive with Laniakea and Mandrith is pretty darn good.

Now, I think the building the Raptor is associated with is more exciting than he is personally, but as someone that wants to see RuneScape continue to freshen up the new player experience, Fort Forinthry does a pretty great job at this, and the guy's role in essentially reinvigorating early-game Slayer by being a scalable Master here is pretty cool in my opinion.

Raptor wants to give up a lot of new slayer things to play for, and not only that, he also wants to give us more usages for non-breeding Ultimates.

Currently, most players just ramp up adrenaline to 100% and fire off Death Swfitness and Sunshine. This meta can change with the 3% chance of instant execution of non-boss slayer mobs. A good start with balancing lesser use abilities in the preparation of new ones in this Year of Combat.

I have to agree that Slayer didn't need the buff. But given its popularity and the buffs being somewhat useful, i don't think you'll get many complaints.

I don't fault jagex on the raptor from a design or narrative perspective.

They already have the char model. He has been used as a pseudo slayer master in the past. He has a lot of combat xp and has at least gotten slayer tasks from kuradel and beaten a number of level slayer creatures.

Narrative also has all of this taking place after the recent god wars.
So on one hand, the player char has (somehow) bested a lot of powerful creatures.
On the other, maybe the war/battle had an affect on the raptor's psyche. Or maybe after the fight, he defeated Zuk in,that challenge and with the gods gone, he has "peaked", and he's forcing his way into an open spot as a slayer master as a way to pseudo retire.
The fact a new group of undead are here doesn't hurt.

Besides, between you and him and some red shirt guards, the fort should be ok.

Mostly my complaint about the impostor Raptor is the excessive dialogue used to explain the previous event. Same deal with Frank's Free Chests. The characters wouldn't be giving highly detailed explanations.

So it's like any character that is used for an event is immediately buried because that character has to explain it all.

I would place a sign next to them which they can refer to, or a completely ridiculous NPC who explains everything. Like a rabbit or something. Talk to the rabbit.

They said we get instanced slayer monsters for a month, like the previous release of abyssal monsters.

Also reworking the wrack/piercing shot/slice abilities so we might actually use them.

That seems like a big deal.

There will be a lot more update on abilities, both new and existing too. We are going to have beta worlds to test them later, especially when we finally get the 0.3s new Tick system.

There should be a lot of combat updates, and only so in this Year of Combat.
