Confusion about Steam...

Maybe I am dense and an idiot but.... but will everything shift to Steam? Or will those who can play RS from the downloaded launcher still be able to play that way? And just those who played in the browser window will convert to Steam?

I ask because because my computer does not handle Steam content well AT ALL and if I am forced to go through that platform they will be losing a player with 17+ year old account for new players who may or may not stick around.

Any clarification would be great.. thanks.

1: Steam and the NXT client will still be seperate.

2: Steam will have exclusive cosmetics/achievements/trading cards.

3: You are not required to link your account to steam if you wish to play NXT client only.

tl;dr Steam is not needed if you wish to continue playing the game as your used to.

There's no currently no teasers for the cosmetics, But they will be available with the "Steam" membership packages.

to qoute the rs steam info page

"RuneScape can be played free, but also offers optional membership that unlocks even more thrilling content, including 8 additional skills, over 120 extra quests and access to the entire game world map! Check out the Steam DLC Bundles Membership Access offers featuring launch exclusive Steam cosmetic items and special rewards."


It's near the bottom on the store-page. under memebrs benefits. Someone i know is a memeboy.

Welp, guess im going to have to get that too.

Darn jagex and their fancy cosmetics.

Then again it does say in one of the posts on steam that these "cosmetics" just seem to be achievements, trading cards, emotes, and badges.

So maybe thats what its referring to?

That does help, thank you. I avoid steam games... uninstalled the client long ago, and don't intend on going back. It might have been the end of 18 years of playing RS, for me, if we were forced to use it.

Why would they would force ppl to use steam over jagex's own client?
