Pretty much the title. The list of existing items to be used in Necromancy includes neither the Necromancer robes (or the Dagon'hai robes, necromancer kit, and fine cloth you make them from) nor the Necromancer's staffs (or the shade skull and battle staffs they are made from). I get that these are currently Magic gear, but I think it odd that they wouldn't have any relation to the new skill given they are the only gear currently in game that is explicitly for Necromancy.

Why should these old magic items have anything to do with Necromancy? They are Magic items, not Necromancy items. Don't mistake RS3's Necromancy as the boring Magic we have been yawning over these 22 years.

Because they are literally named Necromancer's "X." As in equipment used by Necromancers to do Necromancy. They should be converted from Magic gear to Necromancy gear or a hybridization of Magic and Necromancy gear.

Magic secateurs and magic seeds have "magic" in their names, uh oh... Jagex has forgotten to turn them into Magic items for like 20 years. :D

Literally not the same thing. If you wanted an equivalent, they'd need to be named Magician's secateurs and Magician's seed (and even then the connotation of what secateurs and seeds are used for would tend to lean the interpretation to the Magician's tools and seeds for Farming rather than tools for the practice of magic). Since, you know, a Magician practices magic, while magic seeds and secateurs themselves are magic (just like a Necromancer practices Necromancy, while raising the dead itself is Necromancy).

But let's take your own point. Necromancy isn't magic, so why were Necromancers using gear that doesn't benefit their combat style?

Why are Magic Wespons not called Magician Weapons then?

Because not everything has to be explicitly named for a specific purpose. But when something is explicitly stated to be for "x" purpose and isn't actually for that purpose, it tends to be seen as more than a little odd.

For example, we'd both find it exceedingly strange if Jagex were to release an item called "Archer's coif" and have it be a piece of melee armor.

TYVM. Names aren't important at all. It is what the items do that matters. Necromancers robes and such don't add a thing to the Necromancy skills. That's why they aren't Necromancy items.

I know they currently don't, Dilbert. That's the point. They should be made into items relevant to Necromancy precisely because that's what their names indicate their purpose is. That, or they should have their name changed to reflect that they aren't actually used for Necromancy in order to avoid confusion.

Heck, just a straight conversion from lvl40 Magic tank gear with a high prayer bonus to lvl40 Necromancy gear with a high prayer bonus would do, frankly. Given that the player made and upgraded baseline Necromancy gear is likely to be tank gear, however, I'd prefer that the Necromancer robes be made lvl40 Necromancy power gear (like how the Dagon'hai robes the Necromancer robes are made from are lvl40 Magic power gear) or maybe lvl 45 Necromancy power gear just to add a little bonus set of gear that players won't miss if they don't want to do the Shades of Mort'ton mini game, but gives a small temporary to those who want to engage with that content.

Why should they? Jagex makes the game. They designed everything in the game. They are the "dictionary" of their game, definitely not you. You are confused doesn't mean the almost 350 mil registered Jagex players are.

Necromancy robes don't factor in any of the new Necromancy mechanics. They aren't crafted with Necromancy only game features. They aren't even effective against new Necromancy mobs. Useless items are just useless. Therefore, they don't belong in Necromancy.
