Primary challenge to combat ability overrides is a lot of them have a very short duration.
Second issue is if you add an override for am existing ability, it takes that animation (and possible effect) away from a future ability.
Ultimate abilities tend to work better due to their longer duration, even if you can't use them as frequently.
Like Metamorphosis where you change them from the basic 4 elements to say the Ancient 4 Magicks.
Tsunami imagine burying someone under lava, wind, money, skulls/undead.
Unload where you throw random objects like from the Oddball Aura
