I am pretty sure you can afford to buy the FSW cosmetics, perhaps except the ultra rares ones only available to the top 100 skillers or World First record holders, in the main game later, especially you are maxed except Dungeoneering.

Even if you really can't afford them, I don't see the problem as they are just cosmetics

You underestimate my casualness, haha. My bank value or cashstack is really just the bottom of the barrel. I like collecting the cosmetics. The problem with "they are just cosmetics" is the fact that they are unobtainable in any other way than doing FSW. Sure they have no impact on the game, but from my p.o.v. the fact that I would be denied even a chance to obtain them, unless I pay for FSW is sad.
Once again, it is not something that will turn heads at Jagex H.Q. for sure, but just from a casual cosmetic collector's point of view.

Can your afford to buy all the discontinued rarea like all the partyhats in RS3? If so, then you can afford to buy FSW "rares" that are really not that rare.

There are also a lot of cosmetics in Jagex's games such as the "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" title (only one exist and untradeable) and the OSRS Leagues Trophies (untradeables) that you missed out and will never obtain again. Are you torn by not getting them?

No, I cannot afford those. But that is obviously not the point I'm trying to make. You're comparing apples to pears.
I don't play OSRS so could not care less about league rewards and I believe you didn't have to pay to compete. These rewards are in the past and I have no way of going back in time for them. But I am here now.

I just wanted to hear thoughts on the 'upcoming' event. Not to get nitpicked on my choice of words and having them compared to something I no longer have control over.

Didn't you write you are a
cosmetic collector
?

" but just from a casual cosmetic collector's point of view."
- OP

When you ask for opinions as a
"cosmetic collector"
, you are telling us you are looking at not just cosmetics from the upcoming event as you have been collecting cosmetics now and in the past. So why are we suddenly not discussing all the cosmetics you failed to collect in the past like "eeeeeeee" and discontinued rares?

I was unaware I had to be in the possession of trillions worth of discontinued rares in order to call myself a cosmetic collector...
I'm unsure why you keep insisting on bothering with more questions regarding this while I stated my intentions clearly. As such, I will no longer be replying on this kind of comments of you.

You asked for discussion as a "cosmetic collector". I gave you my opinions as a cosmetic collector. If I don't have a problem with not in the possession of trillions worth of discontinued rares tin order to call myself a cosmetic collector, I will absolutely, completely, utterly, 100% not have a problem with not in the possession of a few rares from FSW that are not discontinued and hardly need trillions to get.

Wondering why jagex lets players spend money on runecoins on fsw when the servers will get shut down down the line? Seems like a waste of money.

Because the servers don't get shut down. Only the specific worlds are but all progressed earned from Runecoins spent will be carried forward to RS3 and then "sort of almost RS4" which will still be called Runescape.

I give Jagex way too much credit in believing they could get something right. Obviously with their quick change they always did want bonds to be part of this, but 'couldn't figure out a way' to transfer them to new accounts, thereby blowing their entire cover story.

They will make it work, some way, some how, and it will probably take like 8 minutes to actually do it.

So maybe their target audience also includes people who are highly engaged in both games, already using alts, and paying for all of it with massive piles of GP. Crazy! How convenient is THAT!

A built-in player base, who even more conveniently will be racing for hiscores, making the lapsed player once again and immediately fall behind in the dust.

IF that part of the player base wants to participate in these fresh start worlds they NEED to be handing over their own real money for it. NO BONDS FOR YOU.

The keen observer already knows what I'm conflicted about by now:
I would love to go to FSW, just checking it out and collect the cosmetics. Challenging myself to a certain extend and see how far I can get. I do not like the aspect where I have to pay for it... It feels very much like; "Please click here to pay for getting cosmetics you cannot get otherwise."

Just to let you know RS3 has made these announcements:

(1) They're committed to ensuring the majority of items from Fresh Start Worlds are available again in the future.

(2) They are developing a way to allow RuneScape Bonds to be redeemed for a new 14-day Membership Passcode, ready for launch on September 26th, so that existing players can use their Bonds to get Membership on a new FSW account. They will share more information on this in the coming weeks.

Even if you don't participate in RS3 FSW, you can still get the cosmetics outside it. You don't have to pay real money to get into FSW. We can just play the main game and buy bonds to fund your FSW alt the similar way as we fund our alts in the main game.

Honestly, if you do decide to play Fresh Start it's worth paying for IRL money not bonds.

In a "new" game world without much in the GE and nobody having much to start with you will have to work very hard just to maintain a bond.

That would really cut back on you doing the things you want to do, like level non-GP making skills for capes, doing runescore achievements instead of quests since they don't "pay". Quests may not directly pay much but they can unlock paying areas.

It's fine they are providing this option and limiting bond purchases, but if you decide to play I think you would enjoy it more if you don't have to worry about making GP for bonds.

I can not see a reason to join the fresh start worlds. If you have any kind of life you will not be in the race for the firsts and these fresh start worlds are no different than creating a new account. Now if this was creating say a sub account/player for each account that shared membership I could see the value in reexploring the world and doing quests again. An account having two separate players would be interesting but I would not pay a second membership to do this. It feels like a cheap attempt to milk a second membership out of players rather than allowing players to reexplore the world and relive their early Runescape experiences.
