The reasons why there's no other gear for T60+ in Smithing is because they have yet to update other skills to fully allow T60+ skilling.

Ex1. Elder Trees are a T90 resource that fletches into a T60 weapon and the highest level Hatchet we have (Crystal) is T70.
Ex2. Rune Arrowtips take Lv50 Smithing to create and Lv75 to fletch into usable arrows.
Ex3. It takes Lv93 Crafting to create a T65 Ranged Body (Royal Dragonhide).

May I have your attention to all the wonderful T80 attuned crystals gear and tools that require smithing to create please?

They exist in the game for a very loooonnnggg time already.

Yes, as one of the few more recently (by comparison) released items that is fully in-line with proper tiering.

That's one good example of what things should be like! ^_^

While these are true (and hopefully we'll get Woodcutting/Fletching and Crafting/Runecrafting revamps sooner rather than later), I think what OP is getting at is the selection of melee gear made from the new-ish metals are lacking.

Look at the difference between, say, Rune and Orikalkum:

Rune Armour:
- Full helm
- Med helm
- Platebody
- Platelegs
- Plateskirt
- Square Shield
- Kiteshield
- Boots
- Gauntlets

Orikalkum Armour:
- Full helm
- Platebody
- Platelegs
- Kiteshield
- Boots
- Gauntlets

Rune Weapons:
- [Main/Off]Hand Daggers, Maces, Swords, Scimitars, Longswords, Warhammers, Battleaxes, Claws
- 2H swords
- Hatchets
- Spears
- Hastas

Orikalkum Weapons:
- [Main/Off]Hand Warhammers
- 2H Warhammer

Think about it from the perspective of a new player, who has no idea that there was ever a Mining/Smithing rework and has reason to assume that this is how it's always been. Halfway through your adventure, your choices of Smithable gear plummet for no obvious reason, from a full arsenal of weapons and armour per tier to a meager few. Weapons especially; you're going from twelve types of weapons you can make to two . Would that not seem kind of unfinished to you?

It does. I was dismayed when I heard during development that they'd retire chainbodies, medium helmets and square shields as "legacy" items.

I'll be honest, I'd love a chainbody variant of Elder Rune or even Masterwork.
