So with the new death costs, how does this apply to degradable gear? Obviously repair costs have to be kept the same because that's a decent portion of money taken out of the game. So what changes? Charges are lost when retrieving from graves. Is the number of charges reduced? What about Divine Charges on augmented gear. What's changed there?

I'm not saying I want to. I'm saying it's odd the reduction applied to degradable items as well given their costs previously were directly tied to charges lost and the cost of repair. EX: An item costs 1,000,000 to repair at base. 20% charges are lost on death, so you previously paid 200,000 to reclaim, or you ran to your gravestone where it would be retrieved with 20% less charges. The gravestone option, in terms of costs, was better considering you could repair it yourself at a reduced price based upon your Blacksmith skill. This is why it's weird to me. If I was working at Jagex, I'd have this still be the case by merely cutting charge loss when picking it up from your gravestone.

"The current death system maintained these item-specific gold sinks, but added Quality of Life improvements where you could simply pay that fee on death instead of having to travel to each NPC to reclaim manually.

It's jarring that these fees can be higher than the reclaim costs for many items, and the link to the direct reclaim costs isn't clear. To simplify the system, fees will be changed to the base reclaim cost for that item. If you destroy the item, you will still have to pay the full price to get it back."

It's jarring we that we have been paying fees higher than the reclaim costs for many items before the update already, so it is not really "weird" Jagex doesn't encourage us to waste time to run to our graves now.

You only paid the degradation if you made the failure to reclaim unprotected degrading or augmented items from your gravestone - the former lost 20 % charge, the latter charges worth 4 hours of using it. You never paid those when reclaiming from death directly, which made the gravestone always a dumb decision as soon as degrading items, that can't be protected from your side came into play. But that's literally as it was ever since we've gotten that death system. Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
