saw that jagex gave some streamers a look/test of the necromancy skill.
does that mean all supplies must be self obtained? or will the streamers have inside trading knowledge.Would be unfair if they got that head start and buy the supplies before we know anything

Was thinking the same thing myself. Nec must be like Dunge in the sense that everything you need is already there. Either that or there's gonna be some serious money making going on for those players and their best buddies.

We know for over 15 years Jagex have been inviting beta testers for all kinds of content in all kinds of games. It is nothing new and not even remotely recent. For instance, we know there were players beta testing Archaeology a year before it was released. We also know there were beta testers for Desert Treasure II bosses for OSRS.

AFAIK, all invited beta testers are required to abide to NDA, and price actions of affected items are closely monitored anyway.

That said, it is inevitable some players have first hand knowledge of upcoming content, but this is the way almost all video games are doing to gather feedbacks from people outside their development circle. However, there is really no difference between Necromancy, Archaeology, Desert Treasur II in OSRS, Dragonfight in WoW, Final Fantasy XVI or just about any content in any game you can think of.

Skills like Archaeology had no real effect as most items could not be horded beforehand. A skill like invention could but Jagex did so many live steams that most players already knew what was needed.

Even if the testers do not cheat on their own accounts there is nothing stopping them telling their friends what is needed. Same can be said about J mods themselves telling their friends. Like Mod Mark telling his friends about climbing boots.

Money making is hard to define because if someone is buying an item then another person is selling it and the money in game should remain the same. Biggest problem with new skills has always been alt trading but Jagex will not do anything about it because of all the membership money it brings in.

How do you know there are Necromancy or DT2 items that can be horded beforehand? We just don't know yet.

first what other games do is not my concern, what jagex does is.
I did not say we have any idea what items are needed--also was not my concern.
What is my concern is that jagex keeps it fair and that the streamers do not take advantage of having prior knowledge( ie insider trading)

Maikeru in his stream mentioned he was excited for the "race to first".
I have respect for the work the streamers do but they also run clans.
Again my issue is that jagex ensures the skill is fair to everyone

As I mentioned, just like over 9,000 online games under the sun, Jagex has been hosting beta testers for all their games for over 1.5 decades. Have you found any occasions there weren't fair?

If Jagex aren't/weren't fair, Jmods like Jed or Reach could simply tell all their friends all the details of upcoming updates like Necromancy in RS3 and DT2 in OSRS. They don't have to be beta testers anyway.

Last but not least, I think you got it totally wrong regarding Maikeru. He is excited about Necromancy, but he isn't excited for the "race to first". He doesn't like it but he thinks Jagex will make it fair.

Jagex has revealed the list of existing items affected by Necromancy on today's new post:

"Since we've had a number of Creators on site to playtest pre-launch, we've put a number of provisions in place to ensure fairness among the community - including placing restrictions on merchandising existing items related to Necromancy for those Creators until today's announcement.

Now that Necromancy has been revealed, we also want to make sure all players have equal access to information on items used in Necromancy. Below are a list of various items used in Necromancy that you can access today in-game, so you can begin stocking up together on a fair playing field.

These items are:

Pure Essence
Overload Potions (premade Overloads will update to include Necromancy boosts - ones made after update will require Extreme Necromancy Potions to make)
Bones
Big Bones
Baby Dragon Bones
Wyvern Bones
Dragon Bones
Dagannoth bones
Airut bones
Ourg Bones
Hardened Dragon Bones
Dragonkin Bones
Dinosaur Bones
Frost Dragon Bones
Reinforced Dragon Bones
Subjugation Chest/Head/Legs
Spectral Spirit Shield
Dragonic Visage
Spider Silk Chest/Head/Legs
Mystic Chest/Head/Legs (Only the Blue Variant is currently used.)
Algarum Thread"

As we can see there are only a small number of items (most bones) used in Necromancy, and prices of most of them hardly moved then and now. Evidently, nobody seemed to be profiting from insider information.
