I don't know that I'm necessarily reminded of Lumford ever because I don't really concern myself with locales I have to imagine in my minds eye - but I can definitely see your point. I think the name of the location indicates that it is somewhere along the River Lum where the water is shallow. Fort Forinthry seems to be a bit too far to the east of the river to me.

I think we can go over a solid piece of RS3 advertisement that could be found by those who have opted to have Jagex send them emails about the game safely at this point.
The email has flavor text as follows:
"The Raptor has a bone to pick and a score to settle."
"There are others out there with their own necromantic aspirations."
"To whet your appetite ahead of the Dead and Buried release, here's an image of an oddly familiar face!"
The picture seems to be an image carved in stone depicting a dragon breathing fire.
---
There's a lot to unpack in that.
Firstly, The Raptor being involved with Dragons in the past could lead to something involving the Queen Black Dragon...
Making note of the cavern in the Woodcutter's Grove being located underneath the Odd Old Man's encampment, the word "oddly" does kind of stand out. We also know that the Skeletal Horror is a reanimated monster composed of the remains of various dead creatures, and that Xau-Tak is involved in all of that related lore.
The dragon in the image, combined with the word familiar, could be hinting at the very-deceased Elvarg. While most of her body is at Crandor, the player moves the head to Edgeville in order to prove to Oziach that they were able to complete their challenge in Dragon Slayer. A zombified Elvarg, which we now know was considered a failure by her creators, could be a potential Vorkath retcon from Old School if they don't call her Elvarg straight up. (Vorkath means "failure" in Dragonkin lingo.) Very retro angle perhaps brewing here.

As for our mysterious necromancer rivals, I think I'm going to continue positing that our main antagonists for the Fort Forinthry arc specifically (knowing now that whoever this First Necromancer is stands as our greater foe in the future) are Zemouregal, and potentially by extension Moia, considering the purpose of what Fort Forinthry is supposed to be protecting Misthalin against as well as the fact that we found out the Zamorakians were very interested in necromancy research while playing detective with Adrasteia at the end of the LoZ arc.
This by no means is me claiming to be correct here. It would be interesting to see a scuffle with Zemouregal go horribly wrong and we unleash some greater power, like the First Necromancer himself, and the storyline just ends to get out of the way for Necromancy proper.
I don't follow lore much, so sorry if this is waaay out there, lol. But do we even know that Raptor is human under all that armour? Maybe he's a skeletal Dragonkin brought back against his will by the First Necromancer?
Aha! When we can expand our Fort to the East, we can also expand our Fort to the West and get closer to Edgeville and River Lum.
Lumford, Edgeville, River Lum all may not be too far apart actually, and the Duke of Fort Forinthry should take over them soon under the decree of Basilissa Adrasteia, and then perhaps Haracio can step down and spend more time tending to cake baking.
personaly I rather they give us the option to tell oak what to plant in the grove so we can control what trees are there and making in instance would be handy too so your fort is not so laggy. any time I go there my frams drop like crazy.
Highly skilled player can handle some pvm but tends to avoid PVP will only do friendly duels for no stakes.
Skilexa, I think that with regards to telling Oak which trees to plant, Jagex partly addresses the issue with the Farming patching being a reward at T2. From there, it can (and should, in my opinion) be argued that the Grove doesn't need to be an area where one trains the skill from 1-99 in order to encourage exploring the game world as well as protect certain reward spaces (Such as the ability for the Sentinel's Outfit to teleport players directly to higher level tree locations.)
With regards to instancing the Grove, that runs pretty counter-intuitive to their goal with making Fort Forinthry a skilling hub that is intended to foster a community between players. However, its possible that less people will woodcut there once more people have acquired the axe pieces, which should fix your game's performance issues.

I finally joined the Imcando Hatchet gang after a good week of enjoying the update. I made sure to turn off the Golden Consignment buff so that I could utilize the wood box, and I also built my own wood box to get a grip on how this content would impact newer players or ironmen.
1. Crafting a wood box from scratch encapsulates Woodcutting as an "adventurous" skill. Ironman are required to find every type of tree necessary to construct the box, and with the hidden added Acadia, Teak, and Mahogany trees, to areas that are notably easier to find than their fellow existing trees but are notably not Fort Forinthry, this is doable without having to compromise certain restrictions.
2. The Log Piles are nice for players who want to continuously stockpile logs, but it doesn't feel necessary with the existence of the wood box. The box allows the player to carry nearly 300 of any type of log already. Some may like to just woodcut for hours on end though, and the log piles appealing to those players more work perfectly fine too.
3. The Imcando Hatchet feels like an upgrade to the Crystal Hatchet.

Nah! We didn't tell Oak to come. Neither did we tell the named banker to come to our Fort. They are uninvited guests. Perhaps we can't tell them to do everything as we asked them to do or not to do yet... but we will gain full control of Fort Forinthry, and perhaps Misthalin, soon after the next quest and the release of Necromancy.
