Two years ago, ed3 trash runs were awesome xp and even feasible to run for lower level players as the loot you got even if dying early usually covered your death costs.

At some point, it was decided that when the xp is so good that so many people run ed3 trash, also people carrying lower level clannies and friends through it, a rebalancing should happen with the idea in mind to convince people to run full ed3 instead of just trash. We've seen how that worked out - people noticed ed3 trash still gives good xp but no interesting drops anymore, so they just used scrimshaw of corruption (when the drops are worthless, can as well opt to forfeit them entirely for additional xp); it didn't motivate previous non-bossers to suddenly start learning the fight mechanics for Crassian Leviathan. Also the "rebalancing" was supposed to improve the drops after Levi and further after Taraket, but when looking at the reward chest after a full run up to ambi's arena, that doesn't seem to be true.

Anyway, xp was still good.

Now necromancy happened and the decision was taken to change the ways in which xp is gained in all of runescape. This included seriously nerfing the xp from ed3 trash mobs, to prevent people from power-levelling necromancy there through combat.

While this is a valid point, it also killed the motivation to run ed3 at all.

Yes there's one single necromancy armour upgrade task which gets most people to do (or get carried through) one single full ed3 run for obtaining the Ulthven necroplasm. Many opt to bring a friend who has a deathtouched dart, run to Ambi together, hit Ambi with necro once and have their friend dart the boss. Necroplasm obtained, bye-bye ed3 to never return.

And returning to obtain drops from Ambi? Why? The ecb spec "split soul" is identical to the incantation which necromancy offers.

I would be please to see ed3 revived. After several hard nerfs and rendering the special unique drop obsolete, it needs new content, an improved drop table maybe

ED 2 and 3 could definitely use some buffs. XP rates and drops could improve with each boss kill. That would be awesome.

ED4 is a bit different but could use higher XP for sure. The drops are solid. Not counting Zamorak, I know nothing about it.

ED1 is way beyond my ability level, so IDK what the rewards even are. :p

Not at all, as the RS3 team has planned to replace the ED3 combat training meta to something else long before they announced Necromancy.

We used to train combat with goblins and chickens, then after several iterations we had Dominion Tower, then the meta changed to Shattered Worlds and then ED3.

RS3 continously gives us new fresh way to train the same skill or same category of skills. Look for ED5 or something similar to take the place of ED3, perhaps when the next Necromancy boss comes.
