The "box" wasn't there. We would have to move our cursor over to where the loot was to see them.

I don't know if that is an option or not, but I have always had a box above the drop, telling me what is in the pile.

You mean the small texts way up in the air? They flash for a split second and go away so I don't even take notice, especially often my Legendary Pet scavenges the loot for me or my spring cleaner, bonecrusher, charming imp, herbicide, sedicide etc eat it, before I get a chance to see a thing.

I just had a look at the settings, and the thing can actually be turned off, thank god.

There is an option to display the value of the drop (GE price, High Alch value, or turned off).

Then there is an option to show the individual items in the pile (on or off).

If they are both turned off, then you don't get a text box at all, and therefore not an annoying white line.

I can do combat again. :-)

Good for you, and the few on the RSOF who are bothered by it.

Such "boxes" don't bother me as long as they are not ugly tile markers on the ground.

I think you are missing something here. I am not bothered by the boxes that tell me what drops are in the piles, or the value of the piles. I am bothered by the new vertical white line they have made which points from the box to the drop pile. By altering the settings, so I don't get the boxes anymore, I don't get the white line anymore either, which is the whole point. If I could remove only the white line, and keep the boxes, then I would do that.

Same opinion from my perspective anyway. The "box" or the "line" mean nothing to me. Why bother me (and thankfully not the case) would be tile markers, oversized boxes" on the ground. as they would have conflicting with my lovable Lootbeam.

when jagex makes something like this it would be a good idea to allow players to turn it on and off and by doing so they would not make some players angry with such updates.
If I could, I would turn it off.

I couldn't find the source, but I saw a poster on Reddit say that Jagex is considering a toggle.

It makes sense, but this falls under the category of automatic toggle. How could they think that every player wanted this white line?

Is the entire purpose to then say 'due to player feedback' we have made a toggle?

That feedback was delivered 10+ years ago. At some point it becomes part of the design phase.

Good for you and no players will be angry with such updates actually, not even OP:
