I think the confusion is that it works differently from the other events we have had.

I was fighting some monsters with my expensive necromancy outfit, and when I died, I was sent into Death's office. As I didn't want to pay for getting the outfit back, I ran to my gravestone instead. This made me think that deaths apparently wasn't free after all.

But then, at a later moment, I was fighting some other monsters in less expensive melee gear. I died and was sent to Death's office again. This time I was ready to pay for getting it back, because it was cheap gear, but when I tried that, I got it back for free. So deaths are free after all.

It only seems like you have to run to your gravestone to get it back for free, but you can also get it back from Death for free. You have to be ready to pay, before you realise that you don't have to pay.

I think it's a weird way to have it work, and I would prefer it if we simply kept our equipment after death, even if we are sent to Death's office. That way there would be no confusion.

The system it self is pretty confusing.

It is indeed a problem and not well enough explained to new players.

Sadly this is with many mechanics in runescape.
They made way to many options for many weird and small things.
It all made one big mess in all honestly.

Hey dilbert nice could you just add something useful?
You do understand some experience personal bugs and you just train wrack over them and call them fools and totally put them in a wrong corner.
Just have a little respect towards to those people please my thanks.

Normally I don't make grave running for many years, but I tried it for a couple of minutes now. Yes, you are absolutely right as expected, as we can claim our items back from our graves if we prefer to.

However, I want to add a reminder here. Degradable items dropped to our grave will remain still degrade if claimed from the grave even during Free Death events, so avoid at all cost... especially when the cost now is ZERO, totally FREE from courtesy of Death.

You people seem to be missing the point here. It is not a question about wether it works or not, because it does work. The problem is that it isn't obvious how it works.

The fact that you both got your items back for free is irrelevant. Others are still running to their gravestones, because they don't know that they can talk to Death and get their items back for free. They don't talk to Death at all because they don't want to pay, so they don't know that it is free.

It is bad game design.

All I see is we are in a Free Death week. Jagex never said anything other than that.

Not every Free Death week event work the same now and in the past. Ring of Death works differently now, so is persistency of potion buffs. Of course there are always changes, and for RS3 many of these changes are implemented based on Community Consultations and Hitlists.

Living and Forever Games always adapt to the forever changing demands of the modern and future consumers and technological trends. How surprising?
