Yes, that one! It happened to be my first day on the forums. June 6, 2006 was one of the last days of school for me and I unfortunately had too much homework to be on for a certain someone's party, but I logged in right after the big event to see everyone talking about the great time. It was then I was directed to the forums. There were probably more players in Rants that night than logged into RS3 right now, lol.

Being a child of not even 13 I was entertained by Rants, and participated in many discussions, arguments, and even riots from there. Eventually I frequented suggestion, constructive criticism, and off-topic. I had a forum RP thread for a time, too.

This thread has a point beyond my forum-life story. It's my angle on the RS forums and how disappointing it is to see these go. Jagex neglected the forums for too long, and the strengths of forums over other social media have been mentioned throughout these pages since Jagex's harrowing announcement. Forums in general helped shape the internet we know today, and for many remain a vital source of information.

I'd much rather see the RS forums condensed / remade. I can't imagine the costs would be very high or more than the forum community could pool together. The RS forums are an internet historical landmark.

My kids were young tween/teens, and I played to keep an eye on where they were hanging out online (plus it was much easier to say "sure!" if they said "Hey mom, can you give me 20K?" than if they asked for $20!)

My daughter started shouting from upstairs "oh my god you have to come see this!"

I remember indeed, lol

LOL! Yo 20k back then was actually something.

That's another forum point I made on another thread though - would parents rather their kids get RS info and participate outside of the game on the RS official forums, or sign them up for every social media and chat service?

Parents are still having the "what age to allow a cell phone" discussion.

My grand has a tablet, but just for learning games and puzzles. Also grabs mom and dad's phone as often as possible to look at pictures, or take them. At five.

Big thing in schools around here to confiscate phones during class time.

I think of all the contracts I took from a nice high lvl when I was a noob, to spin 10K bowstrings for them for X gp (they provided the flax), or go kill chickens for X K feathers/ X gp.

I got the crafting or combat xp plus money, they got drone tasks done, nice system.

I still have the dragon plateskirt they gave me because they got several on a slayer assignment, when I was still a few lvls away from being able to wear it. One of my prized possessions!

Boy do I have an onion-on-the-belt/get-off-my-lawn moment when I see someone begging in the GE or at a bank.

Go kill chickens, you little whippersnapper! lolol

Yeah, lol. The RS forums though are owned by Jagex and used almost exclusively by RS players.

Oh I made money wcing, had a few folks who became my regular magic log buyers. Actually met who is arguably the best friend I ever had through that lol, a connection I wish I had maintained.

Pfft GE beggars are something else considering how easy it is to earn gold now. Phats and a handful of other rares are out of reach for most but catching up with gear is doable for even the casual crowd.
