"There are always three things which are real. God, human folly, and Jagex sucking"
-John F. Kennedy

Every website is a microcosm of a community and a point in time. This large community, so vibrant and active that you couldn't keep a thread on the front page for long, has now dispersed and moved on with their lives. Within the belly of this dying beast there lived a hope that one day it could be sparked anew, and things could go back to how they were. But alas, this could never have been

While it may seem the forums are dying today, but they died long ago. It's time to put this sad creature out of its misery. Forgotten in a room left behind by its owners. Loved and cared for in the past, but now neglected. All of its potential has been utterly wasted

Let's get to the point

Jagex (the company and its owners, not the workers) does not deserve the RSOF, and the best thing that could happen at this point is for them to commit the tragic business mistake of indebting themselves to third-party social media. I hope they suffer for it, and I hope reddit, twitter, and discord start charging them extremely high licensing fees for corporate entities, exceeding tremendously the cost of maintaining the RSOF

While I never post here anymore, I've always known I could come back if I needed to, and maybe see some familiar faces. But this is no more. So, goodbye everyone.

It really does seem like a risky approach. With the RSOF, Jagex have full control. By going over to these third party sites, they are putting their trust in them that they are going to be run to the same ethics and standards that Jagex once were run by.

Once upon a time, to protect the player base, we were consistently told to be wary of third party sites. Now we're being told to outright trust them 100%. The lines have been blurred, and this is not necessarily a good thing.

However, things change over time, "bigger and better" things come along obsoleting the "older and rubbisher", and companies hanging onto the past often get left behind. The RSOF have dwindled over time, regardless of whether the other places were "bigger and better".

I'm going to be sad to see this go. I don't necessarily agree with the decision, as, like you said, the forums died long ago. We're still here posting though, which says to me they can exist despite no involvement from Jagex. I just wish they would give us the real reason as to why they are deleting them.

Look at it from a better angle...

Jagex probably had an idea of closing the RSOF long ago. Remember years ago many Jmods handled the RSOF? Then they offloaded it to many temporary CMs... Then they cut back to just one CM... and one day the lone CM disappeared without a word... Then they removed FMR...

At least Jagex have been taking stages over years to finally remove RSOF. They could have just booted RSOF at the time when they removed the CM but they didn't.

As for Jagex taking a "risky approach" going to social media, I don't think they doubled down on social media. Their reliance on social media is not getting more... actually I believe they are scaling back, or beginning to scale back their spending of RS3 and OSRS.

The catalyst for the decision of finally shut the door of RSOF probably come with the proven track records of their other new games without an official forum. So they may think why not just take the resources, servers and other investments and give them to their new forever games yet to come, but on the horizon already?

If this were the case, they would do this after finding out that their new games can attract a large audience with longevity - something they have failed to attract on every new release, and non-release, since RuneScape.

That is the stupidest quote ever. There is no God.
There is no forums.
