For example, if you are trying to sell at 30,001, then offer to buy at 30,000... maybe someone is selling at 20,000? Just trying to understand how you know it's exactly 1gp below you and not some other lesser amount?

yes thats exactly what im doing, i list a buy order just under my sell order. i know there arnt any others under me because of the delay between the buy order and the sale, far longer than the tick of an instant sale. additionally i know its exactly under me because when you offer more than the order is asking you get change back, which im not getting. it also doesnt matter what im dropping mine by, whether its 1 gp, 10, 50, or some random number.

Another possibility is that the other person's item isn't selling so he's putting in the item at increasingly lower prices until they do sell. If that's the case, then you are telling him the price to use by buying one of his. He figures if he sells one at x, then he can drop his price to x-1 and try to sell more of them. No buying on his part is needed for that.

if you read my replies youll see thats not possible because of the situation. if that were what someone was doing it would take LONGER for them to undercut me when i drop by 50-100 gp rather than by 1, this is not the case. and this is still going on, literally just happened with some super defense pots i have to go relist, yet again. additionally what i didnt mention in the replies is there are sometimes delays between them undercutting me and my undercutting them, which if they were doing as you suggest would mean their prices would be lower during those delays, and never once has that held true.

the simple fact is somehow someone or multiple someones are price checking me without ever making a purchase.
