There's a reason to upgrade your necromancy armor / weapons at the smithy. I do slayer in mine and don't have a problem.

So... Magic in non-magic amor is bad. Apparently very, very bad. Interesting... for those who didn't play all Runescape franchise games since the introduction of the combat system.
