Was at the Priff GE when a maxed out player with blue phat asked if could help them limit buy some items. At first they would buy what they asked for right away. Then had me put in two large orders for a total of over 4b GP, only for them to log the moment the orders went through.
I know, shame on me for being so gullible. But it's also sad to watch Jagex let an account of that stature run around carrying out such large scale scams, while doing aboslutely nothing. Please watch out for them if Priff
This is, unfortunately, a common scam tactic where users are trying to dump off and profit from "useless" or "junk" items this way. The RuneScape market is a "free" market in the sense that people are free to buy and sell an item for whatever they like, though this does create an opportunity for this type of scam to occur.
Granted, not ever player asking for help with the GE limit is going to be participating in this activity, but if anybody is going to be a buyer on their behalf, then as a buyer - beware! Do some research if the item(s) being requested seem obscure. Also, remember that the GE prices are just a guide and not necessarily representative of the actual "street value" of the item(s).
While the
Scams
support article does not seem to speak of this scam specifically, it does contain links to the RuneScape Wiki's which may have additional information, as well as a link to the support article which describes how to report a player for scamming.

Would it be too much to ask of them to start banning people who do this nonsense? It's down right pathetic.
Indeed. From the support article I linked in my post:

You can help us by
reporting the scammer
. The more evidence you can give, the easier it is for us to keep RuneScape clean.

How can this be seen as an accusation? You just hid their name so they can continue doing what they're doing.
This is a long-standing rule in the RuneScape Forums, referenced in the
Code of Conduct
.

I'll continue reposting their name as long as I have to.
I'm not sure deliberately violating rules yourself and risking having your own account sanctioned for doing so is the best way to go about raising awareness to these issues.
