been thinking about this whole jagex account thing and honestly have no objections to it but have noted that it makes the entire game dependant upon the launcher itself. Which brings me to the other week when the launcher was failing to connect due to "network error" and even after is had been marked as "resolved" on the "game status" page of this website I had to manually log into osrs using the runelite .exe. It wasnt untill a server maintenance cycle that I was able to use the launcher again.

If i move to a jagex account and such a launcher glitch happens does that just mean im out, for as long as it takes for a proper resolution? Just not wanting to rush off into something that could end up with me being locked out for ?? amount of time if theres a repeat launcher issue knowing that right now i can workaround it and still play the game even if there is.

Hey Asterrameth, of course, the choice is yours, for now, Jagex/JMods are slowly working to a future where Jagex Launcher and Jagex Accounts are standard and other options become somewhat 'impossible' to be used.

Do not forget, years back in the past Jagex/JMods had similar issues with connection issues or problems making it impossible to login for many hours, I have seen quite a lot in the past but that is truly inevitable. We are constantly playing a game in a network/system/game that is constantly 'under construction' and that will always be so.

Yes, some players have 'luck' being the first to experience solutions, having contact with the first servers that rollout a fix/update/upgrade, server maintenance cycle, however that isn't something new moreso something we got used to over the years giving us a reason to do something else besides being constantly online.

Hey Asterrameth - I personally wouldn't worry too much about the network errors, as in my mind these are issues with Jagex's (login) servers, with a badly named error code - so it doesn't really matter if you are logging in via your old user/pass combination, or through the new Jagex account, as the login servers are handling both and will throw SOME error no matter what login service you are using when it has issues. Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;
Do you think I should get off the tracks?

Whatever happened there, a lot of players found a different way to get in. I can only use the launcher, so I couldn't play until the next day. I'm on RS3 but it was the same problem.

Looking at an OSRS news post and activity on social media, I have to wonder how many of the 'regular' players have made the switch. Is it that small?

The total number online was between 130-140k. Pretty normal, but I couldn't find a way to join them.

It seems like there is a large group of players waiting on each other to try the system. But that group are the ones I want to hear from. Someone needs to go in and check it out. We need volunteers. :p
