Does the quest you want to do have a hard level 45 Defence requirement, or can you get by using a Death Touched Dart?

Most of the XP rewards nowadays are in lamps, so if it's a defence XP reward you're worried about it's worth checking how the quest in question gives the XP.

As for your question, I'm all for giving myself a challenge as much as possible. However, if you want to play more content, you may have to give up a little of this challenge.

Some quests may have combat requirements but I don't recall many (if any) of them have hard def level requirements. One def, 45 def or 99 def? All good AFAIK, and all up to you, and they all work in RS3, especially we combat stats don't really matter in boss fights in quests coming out the last 5 years. We also have Death Touched Darts too that work even on most quest bosses. How nice! :)

If playing OSRS, I would highly recommend 45 def. I was a def 1 def pure, then became a zerker and much preferred the range of armour etc you have available for pking and slayer. Then I level to 75 def and preferred it even more because you could use all PK gear, but also be able to kill bosses etc.

There are much more content out, of course, and we will start to know more tomorrow when RS3 will tell us more about Necromancy in this RS3 Year of Combat.

What not just stay with 1 def if you want to, when we all start to learn all new combat with Necromancy? Basically we can just ignore all the 3 really old combat styles and all of us start from the same level ground with Necromancy. We can revisit def later if we want to, but it probably may not be a need anymore.

Besides, existing mobs are going to be remastered when Necromancy comes. Some of them are like Kerapac, The Magister et al are known to be having Necromancy combat added to their arsenals. If there is a time we want to be conservative with our current stat and keep stats as low as possible, now is the best time.
