Hello! I saw a post from 2022 asking about account-based subscriptions vs. character-based subscriptions. Is there any current possible consideration from Jagex on that? I have an OSRS character and an RS3 character within the same account but unfortunately used my email instead of my character to log in at the time of creation. Would love to play again and was hoping to get the best of both games with one subscription! (Big ask for Jagex but was hoping)

Hi Thedorkster3

If I am reading your post correctly, you have a single account for both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape? If this is the case then a single membership subscription will allow you access both games as a member. Of course, you are only able to play one of the games at the same time. If you wish to play both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape at the same time with the same character, then you are requesting something quite different which, unfortunately, has been discussed, requested, and dismissed in the past already due to it being technically infeasible.

Thanks!

So it seems like I wasn't clear.

I have 1 account, which I use my email with to sign in.
Within that account, I have 2 characters, thedorkster3 and samanake3.

From what I see, when I try to subscribe, it asks me to choose a character first. Then, I have to choose what game to subscribe in.

Yes, I am aware that if I choose thedorkster3 and then buy membership with OSRS, I also get RS3 membership for thedorkster3.

However, I do not get membership for samanake3, even though it is linked to the same email/account.

Does that make sense? I just purchased an OSRS bond with thedorkster3, but I can't play OSRS with samanake3, even though they both exist within the same account. So I'm looking for an account-based membership, not a character-based membership

Are you talking about the Jagex account for email/account? Because membership is on the character level (which applies to each character for both characters simultaneously) rather than the account level - although it would be nice if Jagex were to give discounts for additional characters with membership under a single account.... Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;
Do you think I should get off the tracks?

There is no such thing. While you have multiple characters under the same Jagex Account, they are still separate and independent characters as far as membership subscriptions are concerned, just as they were before they were migrated into the same Jagex Account.

That would be an interesting perk and incentive, sure. This route would also make more sense (in my opinion) as charging a membership rate across all characters within a single Jagex Account, as suggested in this thread, might be difficult to manage. For instance, would a person with only 2 characters in their Jagex Account pay the same rate as someone with 10 of them? If so, then either the player with 2 characters will feel like they're being ripped off or the player with 10 characters will have a smokin' deal.

Unless the plan would automatically/dynamically scale, but if that would be the case, I feel it would be better to just look into a pricing incentive for character subscriptions under the same Jagex Account after the first.

Account based subscriptions don't work this work. Take Xbox Game Pass and EA Play for examples, we have one Xbox and EA account based subscription services on all games on their platform, I can see we may be able to play other games on Jagex Accounts/Partners when Jagex put their other games there later too, but we will still have to create different accounts for different games enlisted on such platforms.

Ah, this makes sense. I was under the impression that Jagex didn't allow multi-login, but I looked it up and it is allowed.

Man, I separated these characters by accident by logging in with my username in RS3, thedorkster3, and then logging in with my email in OSRS, thinking that the two were referring to the same character (may be my fault for not noticing this earlier since the character names are obviously different). This was back in 2019 (before the Jagex Launcher), and I just wish Jagex offered a way to merge characters so I can pay for one character.

Ex.
thedorkster3 is max-level in RS3, but still on Tutorial Island in OSRS.
samanake3 is max-level in OSRS, but still on Tutorial Island in RS3.

Merging the two would look like:
1. thedorkster3 in OSRS would copy samanake3's OSRS stats/data.
2. samanake3 is subsequently deleted forever.

Does this seem logical/fair? I've always thought this made sense, but maybe it's harder to implement or not important, or I'm missing some contingency. Has anyone heard of Jagex something like this in the future?
