So, I'm attempting to rename my clan with the idea of making it easier to find and more appealing to join. However, the name that I've picked appears to be taken.. except, it doesn't show up in the community clans list, there's no entry for it anywhere like in Runeclan, it only exists in the form of the Scribe saying that it's taken. I have attempted to guest the clanchat (to be told it doesn't allow guests), which confirms that it does exist in game, but why doesn't it exist anywhere else? Are there some secret options that hide a clan from showing up in any searches? Also, what's to be done in the situation that the clan exists, but it's completely full of inactive/banned accounts? Hi RiDaku,

I'll try and answer your main questions:

There's currently no way of hiding a clan from the website. The settings that are available to clan owners and administrators allow them to change several things, but they can't hide the clan itself from public view.

If I recall, there are several bugs affecting the website, and specifically, the clan section. Whilst the main example of this is arguably the problem associated with clan banners, several people have reported that they cannot find existing clans when searching for them. This is a bug which has existed for several years now, and is unlikely to be fixed until significant changes are made to the website.

In previous years, Jagex has offered an inactive clan name clean-up service. The leaders of active clans could request the name of an inactive clan, providing that they met certain criteria. The clan orientaed moderators (Mod Shauny, and more recently, Mod Poerkie) were instrumental in implementing this. However, as of February 2020, the service has been discontinued:

"Hey all,

I will be closing this thread and we will not be offering the ability to request names of inactive clans anymore in the future.

The reasons for this are:
* This is a very time consuming process
* The toolset is not build for this kind of requests
* Within the process of changing name, many things can go wrong. making it a very dangerous thing to do (We can accidentally destroy clans with a single miss click)
* Due to the way our tools work we cannot do this for all clans and this makes it an unfair playing ground.

Our apologies for anyone who comes across this thread at a later date.

The CM Team"

(continued as I ran out of room)

Here's the source for the quote: Inactive Clan Names

Unfortunately, unless they offer the service again (which sounds unlikely), there's not a lot you can do. I would recommend thinking of a similar name, or potentially using additional words/characters to add to your existing name.

I hope that helps answer your questions.

It does, and it's really disappointing but by no fault of your own. Thank you so much for the assistance!

Hey RidDaku,

Just to add onto what Treswavas has said, in regards to the clan names not showing up on the clan list when you have searched, some clans pages get removed which I assume is when the clan becomes inactive but this has not been confirmed by a jmod, the solution I have found is by search a clan using this link

http://services.runescape.com/m=clan-hiscores/a=13/members.ws?clanName=

After the = add the clan name, if the clan name has spaces add a +. For example if the clan name is hello there you would type Hello+There so the link would be

http://services.runescape.com/m=clan-hiscores/a=13/members.ws?clanName=Hello+There

Yuuup exactly as I thought, the clan I want has four players, all free-to-play, and one of them hasn't been on in so long that their name's a bunch of [#ARFHGNJARE:KHA]. That's so annoying. Thank you for the help Ignore List, at least now I know how to find clans that're all tucked away! The Sicarius |
