If there ever was a 'newbie', it's me. I've never played these kinds of games. I'm basically old school, having played text muds for years. In muds, we use clients that allow for great amounts of customization, such as the creation of shortcuts via aliases/macros, along with more complicated triggers and scripts. I noticed the action bar feature you guys have here, and was wondering if there is a way to add more custom actions (like aliases)? From what I can tell, it's limited in dragging certain icons from the info boxes on the right, and can only be used with specific actions.

I'd like to set up keys to perform actions such as 'take bones' when looting, etc. Would someone mind explaining how to do this here? Or, is it possible to perform multiple actions with a single macro?

My apologies for the stupid questions.

It is not allowed. That would go against the Rules of RuneScape :
" Macroing and third-party software/hardware -

People also call this ‘botting.' It means using software or hardware that can help you play the game with the software or hardware doing things for you that you should be doing yourself. Our games are meant to be played by humans - if you cheat, you are likely to be banned, even if it is the first time you have broken the rules."

There are additional details and examples on the Rules of RuneScape page.

You can use hotkeys/keybinds to activate individual abilities or actions on your action bar

Runescape actually started out as a MUD, so it could be a great game for you. Compared to Old School Runescape, Runescape 3 already has a lot of automation features. For example, when smithing we can smith a full inventory, when banking we can make presets to pull out large numbers of specific items with 1 keypress, and even the action bar can be automated to do threshold and ultimate combat abilities while doing other stuff. That's what I'm doing while typing this sentence!

The use of outside programs to automate features (macroing) is against the rules though, so you don't ever want to do that. The game is currently set up so at max you can go about 5 minutes before you have to interact with the game or you'll log out, so you must actually play the game to progress.

As for your example with bones, if you progress enough in the game you get an item called bonecrusher that buries your bones for you, or a power that can note them so you can sell them later. There's items for picking up coins, items for sending loot straight to your bank, and I haven't even scratched the surface of incremental bonuses to quality of life you can earn just by playing. And no, you can't just spend real life money to get these nice features either - you earn them and feel the rewards as you go.

I hope you stick around! I think you'll love the quests if you're an old MUD player.
