I have been trying so hard to learn about the use of abilities, especially since Necromancy came out as it relies heavily on these.

I have spent hours at wiki reading and re-reading and tortured my friends about abilities; and of course each of my friends uses their abilities in diverse ways. Thus, I've winded up with a real mess I need to straighten out.

I got use to the regular combat styles and their action bars because it was rather mindless. I simply attacked and ate/potted/moved to stay alive while the action bars took care of themselves. And since my only real combat has been slayer tasks and quests this has worked fine. Thus, I have 2 action bars for each of these 3 styles of combat (melee, mage, range). One of each is for single-targets and the other of each is for multi-targets.

I also set up a "stand-alone" action bar (not with the other action bars) for movements, prayers & teleports. This has worked well too. This means I have 16 bars that stack on top of each other and have to be brought to the top to use. I think this needs to be changed so that I have several "stand-alone" bars that can be seen at the same time. And I'm thinking one needs to be "defensive" abilities. This defensive bar and the movement bar may be the only ones that need to be seen at all times (along with the bar for that type of combat) for easy use.

The other thing I'm dealing with is how many abilities to actually place inside the gold box. I've been having 10 in there; but when Necromancy came out, one friend said it was best to "manually" click most of the abilities for Necromancy; so I shortened the gold box to only contain three....those that generate adrenaline. I've been using this a lot and, though I'm still not sure what to manually click when, it seems to be working well as my adrenaline stays high. (I also have the rage thingy for adrenaline set on monolith.)

Updating........

I've literally spent hours trying to learn how to set up the bars that would be most useful for me. I've concluded I want 4 bars showing with only one of the bars having other bars under it for switching on various occasions, i.e. when want to melee, range, mage, necro.

The bars I'm setting up are:
A. Defence (with foods...maybe the foods and Saradomen Brew having keybinds)
B. Prayers, movements & teleports
C. One for special activities
D. One for situational combat

My strategies are:
Place "bleeding" abilities at front of gold box on each of my "situational/combat style" bars, except for the necromancy bar where I'm keeping the adrenaline-generating abilities on the bar my new friend (from here in this forum) gave me.

Still working on these; and progress is slow as I'm trying to understand what each ability actually does; and there are a lot of abilities.

Thanks for reading. I suspect this could be quite boring (even to the point of looking silly) to many in here. However, if anyone wants to jump in and critique, I would welcome it.

Well I thought I had them all straightened out. Yet now the bars are not working like I thought they are suppose to, i.e. switching automatically when I switch weapons....

Need to bind a weapon to action bars; so can switch when needed. Went into settings > combat & action bar > action bar binding & it isn't working. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

This is my set up: Have 8 action bars (2 for each combat style). I use dual weapons for necromancy; decimation for range; obliteration for magic; & alternate with dual & 2h for melee.

This is my bar set up: Under the "action bar binding"
Bar #1 for necromancy
... weapon style - necromancy-dual wield
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - necromancy-dual-wield

Bar #2 for necromancy
... weapon style - none (only necromancy option was "two-handed&quot ;)
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - "2: necromancy-dual wield"

Bar #3 for melee
... weapon style - melee-any
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - none

Bar #4 for melee
... weapon style - (no option at all for melee)
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - (only option here is "two-handed" and "dual wield&quot ;)

Bar #5 for ranged
... weapon style - ranged-two-handed
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - "5:ranged-two-handed"

Bar #6 for ranged
... weapon style - none (only option for range was "dual-wield&quot ;)
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - "6:ranged-two-handed

Bar #7 for magic
... weapon style - magic-two-handed
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - none (only option was "magic" and "two-handed&quot ;)

Bar #8 for magic
... weapon style - none (only option for magic was "dual-wield&quot ;)
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - none

Continuing next post....

...continuing...

Starting with #9 action bar through #15 all are blank, i.e. not any abilities on them & in this settings they are identified the same:
... Weapon style - none
... action bar - main action bar
... action bar preset - none

The last 3 bars of the 18 permitted are stand-alones, meaning they are not suppose to be over the bars I have set up for combat because they have movements, prayers, teleports, defenses, etc. on them.

What is working well is bar #1 and #2 for necromancy as, whenever I wield those weapons bar #1 shows up for me to use. Also bars #5 & #6 are working well for range as #5 shows up.

The other bars do not show up when wielding the weapons associated with them. I have to manually change the # on my main action bar for them.

Can anyone help me straighten this out? I've spent hours upon hours attempting to learn about abilities and action bars; and now that I "think" I have what would be good on individual bars for each style of combat, it is disheartening to find they are not working as I understood they're suppose to.

Hi Jodie,

It may be easier to explain and go through all of this in-game, so feel free to PM me if you'd like.

However, I'm confused why you have *so* many different bars? Are these all different revo++ bars for various things, or are you wanting five bars displayed on your screen at any given time?

Thanks colloquial. Next time I'm in game I'll add you.

I think I understand the action bars & keep four showing at all times with only one of them being the stacked bars I actually do combat with. The other 3 I'm experimenting with as they are defences, prayers and movements.

The bars set up strictly for combat are two for each style, i.e. one for "single-target" work and one for "multi-target" fighting. [This is my goal anyway.] And this means I have a total of eight (8) action bars stacked on top of each other that are suppose to automatically go to the correct bar in accordance with the weapon I wield. This is not working out well and I'm not sure yet as to why....

The other part of all this I'm working to learn is how to place the diverse abilities on each bar in such a way they compliment each other without interfering with each other. EXAMPLE: I think the "threads of fate" set up well for "volley of souls" to work. (Still thinking this one.) EXAMPLE: Am thinking "bleed" abilities might do well on the multi-target bars if I place them up front in the gold box so they activate more often. (Still thinking this one too.)

Also thinking hard about whether I want all or part of my abilities in the gold box or if it would be best to "manually" select them. (Discovered their going off automatically by themselves with the revolution caused problems when killing two dinosaurs at the same time. The abilities going off on their own that way messed up the timing needed to keep "both" dinos from re-healing while I killed them. NOTE: In times passed I could "range" two or more monsters at a time because I knew how to time hits well; however, with the action bars now in the game, I don't have that much control.)

I doubt I ever get into killing BOSSES as I don't like combat that much; however, need it in quests...
