I've recently picked up Runescape again for the first time in 10 years and I've been having a wonderful, WONDERFUL time going through the quests with my friend (who I'm introducing to the game). When I first played from 2009-2012, I was too young to buy a membership, so I was restricted to the Free to Play experience. I bought a membership recently and the quests have really been top notch so far.
I'm incredibly interested in learning the lore from the quests in a chronological order, however I've noticed that the "Timeline" ordering of quests, as well as threads such as
this one
start off consistent but seem to fall off a path during the "Champion" section (which I'm in right now). The Runescape quest overview for "Wanted!", for example, lists it as Temple Knight quest #2, and "Sea Slug" is quest #3. However, both the "Timeline" ordering of quests in RS3 and the above forum post puts "Sea Slug" before "Wanted!". Another example is the desert questline - we go from "Spirits of the Elid" which is Desert #2 to "Smoking Kills", which is Desert #5 (this happens, again, in both the official "Timeline" RS3 order and the unofficial post I linked above).
Is there a reason for all of this? Is there a lore-friendly quest order I can use? Should I follow the "Timeline" Runescape ordering, the unofficial post linked above, or the quest overview which tells me which number in the series a certain quest is (this is aggregated in the "Series" ordering of quests in RS3)?
