Hi everyone! So I don't post here often but I wanted to give you all a heads up. As you all know, there are quite a few unsavory Twitch streams that promise people various things like DXP, access to mobile clients, etc in the hopes that people will click on the links and provide their log in information.
This evening, a member of our clan for approximately 6 months came into the chat after several weeks absence. He basically claimed that RS was streaming on Twitch, and that you could download the mobile client by following the link on the Twitch stream. Obviously, many clan-mates pointed out that this was not possible and it was a phishing attempt. He went on to claim that it works and that he got the client from the stream download link.
We believe that he was hacked and that the hacker was using his account to spread this false information in our clan. We used this as an opportunity to remind our clan-mates of safe internet habits and that mobile clients should only be downloaded from the Google Play store (and that iOS client is still not released).
Anyways, I just wanted to share this with all of you out of an abundance of caution so that you and your teams can be on guard in case this is attempted in your clan chats.
I've seen a lot of these streams coming on Twitch recently. Essentially, either phishers proclaim something ridiculous like 'Double XP for Old School codes!', and then provide a link in the stream to 'redeem'.
Please do NOT click the link or provide details on that link - it's a phishing link and someone will probably hijack your account (given that you've provided them with details).
Old School will NEVER send you a code with which to 'activate' Double XP - it's something inherently programmed into the game, and, by any accounts, there are no plans fron the Old School team to do Double XP at this moment. I'm sure they'll let you know if they are.
Please also enable the Authenticator and set up a Bank PIN; this will protect your account even if someone knows your account password.
Please check the official Twitch page for official stream timings, and if something is too good to be true, then I'm sorry to say it probably is.
If you have tried to redeem on one of these links, please visit this page and we'll try to help you regain access to your account.
This is very old news... The post you quoted is from 2015, but it's still a problem nonetheless.
Always a good thing to remind clan members to be cautious of common scams and phishing pages though.
Any phishing pages or emails you come across can be forwarded to [email protected], and you can report phishing urls to Google here:

Yeah I know the Twitch stream scam has been around a long time
We just haven't encountered a clan-mate's account being used to actively promote it within the clan chat before. Would rather post here to raise awareness than have other clans blindsided

I'm sorry to hear about your clannie - though that is interesting I haven't heard of them talking in CC telling people to go click the link. In the past I do know the hackers used to go down the persons friends list and PM them wanting to borrow money.

Yeah I hadn't seen anything about using clan chat for this purpose either. Hopefully it is an isolated incident, but I'd rather warn other clans so everyone can be vigilant and hopefully prevent others from falling for this scheme if it happens in other clan chats.
