Should we have upkeep anymore?

I know Jagex's opinion but frankly I don't care. Do you think in your opinion upkeep should remain?

I understand why it's there, I just do not think it's relevant anymore. Citadels are almost dead content, if avatars weren't there I think even fewer people would bother.

Would you be against getting rid of them?

I'm not sure you're fully aware of Jagex's opinion. Mod Moltare recently said on the CLF that he'd rather do away with the Citadels entirely and put the useful parts in-game.

That said, I feel that we should not have upkeep anymore. You're right - Citadels are dead content other than Avatars. The only thing that keeps people going back to them is us - the clan leaders - having to tell people to do it.

However, there should be some type of reward or compensation to clans that have maintained upkeep all this time, since it wouldn't be fair to put them on the same playing field as clans with abandoned Citadels.

I do like citadel in the way that it is. However maybe make it more rewarding again Ceecs - leader of Ceecs Clan

Personally I'd like to have it removed but I don't mind if it stays.

With everything in life things need to be "maintained" and have some form of cost.

If you want good grades it wont appear from thin air you would need to study.
If you have Abs they won't stay unless you keep working out.
If you have a pet/plant you would need to look after it regularly

As with the above examples you need to maintain things. I disagree I don't think the citadel is dead content (fully). Granted for higher level people it is as there are better xp methods outside but it comes down to those who will do it as they have the "what can i do for my clan" mentality.

Fortunately in my clan I have a core 30-50 people who cap every week and its never because I ask them to, I open all the plots and they do whatever they want and however much they want.

Have you considered recruiting lower level players to the clan? they are more likely to cap in the citadel as its free xp skills which would cost money otherwise (smithing/crafting/cooking/firemaking).

I'd like to see upkeep removed. Then again, I haven't capped in well over a year (sorry Ray <3) because I hate capping with a passion. It feels like a chore. I get that whole analogy of "if you want something you need to work for it", but clans are a community-oriented piece of content, not slaves :P

Even if upkeep was removed it doesn't solve the problem of people not capping. The problem comes down to Time and Experience .

It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes (2 hours if you're AFK'ing)
The xp is free but far less when compared to that which is outside of the citadel.

Like I said I don't mind if its removed but I do see and understand Jagex's stance, if you're clan doesn't like it or you feel its a chore then close it. Otherwise the solutions are you force people to do it/make it part of ranking up or recruit lower level players who will cap.

Do you think removing upkeep would make the citadel less like "dead content"? if so in what way? I'm curious to understand your perspective.

I feel that if people knew that there contribution would make a difference and wouldn't be lost in the future they'd be more inclined to "waste time" there knowing that their time there wouldn't actually be wasted.

There are benefits to clans that reach higher tiers, other than the skillplots, I used to use the meeting rooms with my deputies it was a nice place to hold a meeting, the party room was quite nice. But the main reasons would likely be the clan avatars for the xp and the tier 7 vex.

Very few pieces of content are restrictive to who's allowed to reach all of it due to an upkeep or reset feature, crown of supremacy, membership crowns, (forgive me if I'm wrong) but even the seasonal hiscores stuff remains unlocked once achieved apart from the crown of supremacy, but you get given a crown of legends in return.

Citadels don't really fit into that category, if you make group content boring and restrictive you can't be surprised when less people do it.

If there had been upkeep on ports how would you feel about it?

I feel for the most part PoH are dead content but I still occassionally visit and build and upgrade it.

Free xp is fine for processing skills as you're likely saving money, but gathering it's really not as great when you're not collecting any resources to sell even if the xp rates did match best in skill xp.

Time, it definitely takes too long, I accepted the time it took when it first came out expecting citadels to be expanded upon but now it's years later with not even the glimpse of an update on the horizon, if you're capping 2 hours by your afk calculations a week for 52 weeks, you're spending 104 hours on dead content, where's the fun in that?

At this point, after so many years of frustration involving citadel, I don't care what they do. What does matter to me is that they reach some decision regarding it, tell us what that is and follow through with the plan until it is complete and live in the game.

There is so much talk about what they're thinking/considering/planning in various parts of the game. Listing all the projects in this post that have been partially done only to be abandoned would just be depressing.

Just make a decision and carry it out.

For what it's worth I think upkeep should have been done away with years ago.
