in the past Jagex has always maintained the stance of blocking external links as they may be harmful or lead to devious intentions.

But in 2016 Jagex is heavily promoting Reddit & Twitter, two social media that they do not control, So what I am asking for is a button added to forums that will allow us to link voice chats such as discord

discord uses the same link discord.gg/[unique id]
skype does to https://join.skype.com/[unique id]

teamspeak is a bit more trickier but still possible

ts3server://[ip]?port=[port]

so you would need to get two valuables and maybe separate IP and Port with a colon, but you can still grab their values separately and insert them into a prepared line of code

so what if the button we had allowed us to do something like

[discord][unique id][/discord]

this would then link to the voice server, we cannot act that clans are not using voice chats and Jagex doesn't have the power to stop voice chats from being used unless they were going to add their own.

I think its time we bring the forum standards in to 2016

No support.

The reason why Reddit and Twitter are actively promoted is because Jagex has a very active presence there. Things like Skype and Discord have very private chat rooms, that would be totally impossible for Jagex to moderate. On Reddit, they can completely moderate it, and on Twitter they can moderate it enough to shut down any malicious intent. If they began supporting links to Skype, these could very easily be used to install viruses onto computers and hack accounts. Even if the potential benefit is for Clans, Jagex needs to keep the safety of their entire community in mind when doing things like this.

I think it's fine if a clan wishes to have a voice-chat system, but they should do so at their own risk.

Lisaa
describes the reason better as i could ^_^

I can tell my clan is using Discord now and no longer TS3. We do like it and we advertise it on our off-site forum. We tell people when they join clan to check it out! But ofcourse it is not mandatory.

Never trust end users to take security into their own hands.

Jagex has attempted to educate players since Runescape's conception not to fall for scams or trust outside communication from them, yet players still fall for it daily. Allowing outsidel inks on the RS forums, even voice chat links, would require that much more moderation on Jagex's behalf.
Frankly I'd rather them put the time and resources that would be allocated for that kind of moderation towards pushing a few more clan updates through the game.
