seen many people upset about the new tax and how its effecting skillers making a minor loss even if it is within the confines of the G.E price alterations but noone has said anything about simply not taxing the sellers and instead taxing the buyers

or even better do a 1% on either side so it effects everyone equally

Y should the buyers be taxed?
why should the sellers be taxed?

if selling then your getting rid of it because you dont want it, if buying you need it for x y or z reason

you could say the same thing, its benefitting you so why should the seller pay a tax to "help" someone else surely if you require the help then you should fork out the additional GP

or make it 50/50 so it effects both buyers and sellers fairly

The buyers are taxed the way it is set up currently.

On the face of it, it only looks like the sellers are being taxed the 2%. This is because it is a lot easier to code it this way, than to have buyers put in offers, then to add tax on after they've typed their value in. Essentially, we don't want the GE to end up like the tax system in USA.

If you take a step back, the 2% tax is simply a delta between what the buyer pays and what the seller gets. It doesn't matter if it's split 1% to the buyer and 1% to the seller, it's still a 2% delta. Changing the ratio does nothing to the total difference.

It makes a difference for balancing pressure to raise and lower prices. If Players were only getting 1% below their sell price while knowing buyers put in an extra 1% then there wouldn't be as many people spamming +5% on everything they can. The way it is now, sellers get less than what they're selling for unless they raise prices while buyers don't have to pay a comparable amount over the buying price to match. That has an effect on price changes even if it's not the only factor involved.

Even addressing that side of things, it doesn't change that their stated reasons for going with the tax instead of other, more direct methods of addressing the actual problem were sorely lacking.
