In
The Branches of Darkmeyer
quest you discover Maria Gadderanks, the widow of Gadderanks whom we face as an enemy in
In Aid of The Myreque
while defending Burgh De Rott. She's imprisoned in the Middle Tier of Darkmeyer in a small building in the northeast corner.
Apparently it's possible to free Maria by breaking her lock once you have enough reputation with the vyres. With 100% vyre rep, I went to free her but she wouldn't let me free her!
I tried talking with her while wielding Gadderanks hammer hoping she'd recognize it as her husband's, but unintentionally antagonized her - the game gives no indication you're about to do so! I would never gloat that I killed her husband for goodness sake! D:
Then I tried breaking the lock and she says she's given up hope. Poor, poor Maria Gadderanks!
I've tried killing the vyrewatch guard in the building and removing the Darkmeyer outfit so she'll trust me to free her, but to no avail. Despite sparing the prisoners in the Upper Tier, I can't spare Maria.
I read something on the wiki while troubleshooting my issue about not being able to free her if you've antagonized her too much while working to earn vyre rep. If this is so, I feel terrible, as my character would never let her remain a prisoner - I may have been undercover, but ultimately I'm working to save her and everyone else.
I feel like there should be some way to convince her you're trustworthy so she'll allow you to break the lock. Perhaps the game can allow you to break the lock regardless of her mood, and let you tell her whether she's hopeless or not she's no longer a prisoner. It would bring closure to me and Maria to have another option here.
Thank you to whoever reads this and I hope you're having a great day
