Minigames. I personally remember my youth spent pushing people in the castle wars mines with my dragon halbeard just to detonate the ceiling on them, defeating opponents easily 50+ levels ahead of me.

Part of me wishes I could return to it. I really miss the glory days but of course the number of players these days is troublesome.

It is my personal opinion and not a criticism of Jagex, that a game is not the best it can be if it doesn't have a way of accounting for lowering player base. We've all likely felt it in finding clans, buying items on the G.E. (low volume), but something that is in my opinion more easily fixable, is minigames dying out.

I recently attempted the Hard Ardougne achievements and was saddened by Castle Wars and the sad truth was that you have to wait until minigames are spotlighted to have players to play them.

I think this is a real shame, each minigame has unique points systems and therefore could be automated . I understand NPCs that play games like this are probably server-intensive, but to revive every minigame because you have bots to play with would be incredible to me and maybe to many players. Though I appreciate the potentially huge developer time this would take.

Overall, I think it would be great to have NPCs/Bots that can at least perform the mandatory minimal duties of the game (in castle wars this could be 20 to a side, 5 go for flag, 5 play defense and 10 go for combat). I think balancing is the main issue, because obviously if there's 1 player and 19 bots, the player has the edge. But it's for sure better than not having any minigames playable outside of the spotlight.
Again, I'd expect this is doable because NPCs can already fight each other, there's already a minigame point system for them to know what needs doing, and it shows confidence in runescapes future, that they're able to play on regardless of timezones or short monthly events.

I agree, there should be ways of accessing multiplayer minigames as a solo player.

Both multiplayer and single mode should exist, as the traffic from solo players may be enough to get frequent multiplayer games going again.

even just enough to fill a game would be nice. its not like they dont have members of their team that dont personally have experience making bots. just put some in places where its actually PRODUCTIVE for players. if a minigame isnt on spotlight, and even if for some, you simply cant get it to start if you cant do it solo.

I just typed out loads of stuff and the forums made me log back in, losing it all rather annoyingly. To summate:

Although it increases tech debt (defined as the future costs to fix and maintain software), we should really have a system that makes things playable again.

> Playerbase would likely be really happy, at least for a time, about the re-addition of many minigames (castle wars, soul wars, fist of guthix, pest control, stealing creation).

> Lots of lower level players could benefit. I don't know the full alternatives to mid-tier gear, but fighters torso and void equipment were extremely useful and often mid-game goals. I know in OSRS I worked immediately for them to make sure the playerbase didn't die out before I could get them.
Players shouldn't have to play minigames ASAP in fear that it will never be playable again...

> The minigames are really good! I miss them so much, the points are well defined so there's already a scoring system for NPCs to go for, I honestly doubt any NPC would be more complex than slayer creatures like camel warriors.

> There is already tech debt there, they need to fix something up with minigames because spotlight cuts it to a degree, but to only get a few days a month (spotlight) for something players would spend months on back in the days is just a shame.

> Someone in my Discord suggestion actually commented on this, but the solo traffic alone could build up to at least 1 or 2 games a day where the majority of the game is filled with actual players.
Instead of waiting for 20 minutes to confirm I can't play a game, cumulatively adding people to the game (castle wars offers a "there's a space available, would you like to join?" option) is way better.

For reference on how interesting this could be to players, it's been suggested for years now. Just typing "npcs or bots for minigames runescape" into Ecosia came up with loads of posts on Reddit...

Source(s):
Source 1
Source 2
Source 3
Source 4 (this details more a "what if", but there was loads of community feedback.)

Sadly the main thing I'm noticing is there hasn't been much response to these from any officials.

Firstly, your links won't work on the RSOF as only links to areas of the official website work. This is to protect players from clicking on malicious links.

Secondly, this suggestion has been seen on this forum in some form for at least the past decade, with a post like this appearing every 2-3 months.

The thing is, not every minigame even needs "bots". I'm certain there are novel game modes that can be developed that doesn't require something as development heavy as bots might be. Things like speed runs in Castle Wars, point collecting in Great Orb Project, and scaled number of enemies in Pest Control could be plausible in solo-mode, and none of these suggestions require bots.
