As a returning player coming back to Runescape after about a decade and a half, I've come to enjoy many of the changes to Runescape. However, the Seren Curses, an essentially required end-game ability unlock, is behind maybe several too many prerequisite gates. I think that a few of the prerequisite quests needed for the prerequisite quests for the Light Within should be dialed back.
I have never enjoyed Runescape questing, and that sentiment seems to be shared by many. Yet, to be truly viable end game, there is an *absurd* number of quest requirements to unlock the final Seren Curses from The Light Within. Additionally, the quest prerequisite display is a bit of a tease in a constant chain of prerequisite quests that seem to almost never end.
Yes, there should be some form of working towards a goal and putting the work in to unlock end-game abilities, but rejoining the game at this point in time with these stacked prerequisites is likely a contributing factor to why this game doesn't see very many new players.
Please focus on more relevant quest requirements. For example, I just finished "The Tale of the Mushpah" quest. I understand that this is an introduction to the magical beings of the Mahjarrat, but other than a couple of dialogue lines, the rest of the quest is kind of irrelevant nonsense.
I sincerely believe that a reduction in the number of quests required to reach end-game quests/ability unlocks after all of the involved skilling associated with it will increase the level of retention Runescape sees with new/returning players. Even if these were changed to quest point equivalent requirements, this would be preferable to being railroaded through an absurdly long chain of quests.
To be frank, after doing 20 or so Runescape quests and seeing what it takes to reach the end game even after skilling, it's very hard to not consider going back to WoW, picking up Diablo, or any of the several dozen other popular titles around atm.
