Why have you chosen a zombie to be our companion in necromancy? Is it because it's the character that moves the slowest and therefore is the least useful?
Most of the time when I am fighting, he walks around doing nothing, because I finish off the monsters faster than he can get to them.
Also, as most high level monsters are immune to poison, you have really made sure that he is indeed useless.

He needs to be able to run for sure. I try to avoid summoning the zombie because hes so slow and stick to the ghost and skeleton. Just change the zombie to deal necromancy spirit damage instead of poison.

I haven't fielded a zombie so I didn't know about the slowness problem. I figured it was like a AOE poison ability personified.
Yes, he has an AOE poison ability, but the problem is that he needs to walk to the monster you are fighting in order to use it, and he walks very slowly, like zombies do in this game. When he finally gets there, you have most likely killed the monster and are now fighting another one, and he then starts to slowly walk towards that one.
The end result is that he mostly just walks around without poisoning anything, unless you are fighting something that takes a while to kill, and then you are up in the higher levels where many begin to be immune to poison.
