Hand in Raptor's bone fragments to unlock Monster Examine ability.

Would you want that? Would you use it? Would you start a riot if I could use it? Does it crush the lore and ruin the entire gaming experience?

This spell has been in the game over 15 years and I have used it less than 15 times. I want to use it regularly. Like just for fun.

Seems to me anyone who doesn't want me to examine a monster must be on their side.

Raptor is the perfect NPC to deliver this knowledge, and he has this perfect system of bone fragments which offer nothing more than a meaningless XP boost. Slayer don't need help, but the players do and Monster Examine is a cool thing. Lunars spellbook is not a cool thing.

The game would instantly be better.

Yes, that is the problem. The spell is never available when I want to use it. Mostly because it is a spell, and locked in a spellbook that I don't otherwise have a use for.

That's why I took the extreme step of suggesting an ability. I just need a button to activate a hidden feature, in the name of better controls and a better gameplay experience.

Given that this is a spell on the lunar spellbook, which as you mention is rarely used by most players... the Raptor is a very logical alternative way of our character learning this information :-) Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;

Yeah The Raptor is a good source for this just because he is the #1 expert on monster knowledge. It might be a spell up in lunar land but for Raptor it is a dusty old book that only has value to unimpressive noobs, like me.

Like Jeremy said, it gives more reason to do the tasks. I have basically cleaned it out and gone back to Lani. If it's supposed to be some noob/high level hybrid master, the Monster Examine spell fits even better.

It can be hand delivered straight to the new players through this system. Even more, I see little value in the XP for bones at all. I would consider changing them to points and leaving the system open for future rewards. Maybe an ingredient for recipe items, things like that.
