For a few months now, we've been able to block experience gain in a skill at Nastroth in Lumbridge. Once a skill is chosen to be blocked, you stop getting experience in that skill until it's unblocked again. This can be done at any time.
Great feature. If it works.
I've been blocking my skills close to 99 for a while now. Saving them up for one big spectacle. Yesterday afternoon I randomly got an xp drop in Thieving, which had been blocked. It was enough to level me up to 99 too. If anyone wants to know, it happened while opening a sarcophagus in the shifting tombs.
First thing I did was rush over to Nastroth to check if I had accidentally unblocked my Thieving experience. It was blocked. The granted xp was a bug. This wouldn't have been as big of a deal to me if it was me making the mistake, but my only mistake there was to expect a feature that was built in for this exact reason to function as described.
I did, however, make another mistake right after. I attempted to contact Jagex customer support. After searching for much longer than I should have, I managed to file a ticket. Got my response earlier today. Automated message. Declined. "this decision has not been made lightly and is final."
While I don't question the second part of that statement, the first part is an obvious lie. There was zero effort put into this and it shows.
So my second mistake was expecting a human being at Jagex customer support and the slightest bit of effort on that human being's end. The first was unlikely. The second, evidently out of the question.
If you experience a legitimate issue with the game, even something game breaking and it can't be solved with an automated FAQ link, you're screwed. So the only thing I can do now is raise awareness. Do not rely on experience blocks from Nastroth. They're usually reliable, but they will ultimately screw you over when you don't expect it. That moment when you get experience while you shouldn't, will happen eventually.
